The method for mitigating interference in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) communications systems uses comb-type pilot signals in a doubly selective channel where the pilot signals are calculated to have zero correlation sequences in order to maintain orthogonality where there is a high Doppler effect to mitigate intercarrier interference. The pilot signals may be precomputed, stored in a look-up table, and selected based upon total power constraints of the pilot signals. The steps of the method may be performed by a Finite Impulse Response (FIR) equalizer.

Method for mitigating interference in OFDM communications systems

A method of cancelling alien noise in coordinated DSL lines, a method of smoothing an alien noise covariance estimate, and a processor and modem for cancelling alien noise in coordinated DSL lines. In one embodiment, the method of cancelling alien noise includes: (1) estimating alien noise vectors for at least some training symbols, (2) arranging the alien noise vectors in a matrix dimensioned for a number of coordinated DSL lines, (3) orthonormally transforming the matrix into a lower-triangular matrix and (4) computing alien noise prediction filters from the lower-triangular matrix.

Processor, modem and method for cancelling alien noise in coordinated digital subscriber lines

Various embodiments of a method of mitigating interference in an OFDMA cellular network and a user terminal incorporating various of the embodiments. In one embodiment, the method includes: (1) selecting at least one dominant interfering signal, (2) generating estimates of a desired signal and the at least one dominant interfering signal, (3) jointly deciding based on the estimates such that an energy of a residual error is reduced and (4) mitigating interference based on the estimates.

Intra-cell and inter-cell interference mitigation methods for orthogonal frequency-division multiple access cellular networks

The OFDM channel estimation and Inter-Carrier Interference (ICI) cancellation method uses a few pilots within Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems in general, and mobile OFDM systems in particular. The frequency domain channel is estimated using an eigenvalue based model reduction technique with high accuracy. A Minimum Mean Square Error (MMSE) based Finite Impulse Response (FIR) equalizer is then used to obtain an ICI free estimate of the transmitted signal.
