Methods, systems, and apparatus, including medium-encoded computer program products, for computer aided design of physical structures include, in at least one aspect, a fully automatic method of converting a generative design into an editable, watertight B-Rep by leveraging the generative solver input and representation to: (1) embed the exact input solid boundary surfaces where the design coincides with the input, (2) approximate everywhere else the design boundary with globally smooth, editable 'organic' surfaces, and (3) join all surfaces to form a generative design output B-Rep.

A method, apparatus, and system provide the ability to conduct a dynamic simulation in a computer-aided design (CAD) application. A CAD model is acquired on a server. On the server, a proxy object is created for the CAD model. The proxy object is a voxel-based representation of the CAD model and fully encompasses a simulation mesh of the CAD model. The proxy object is transmitted to the client. The transmitted proxy object includes extents of a voxel domain, of the voxel-based representation, in three (3) directions, minimum and maximum coordinates in each of the three directions, and a number of voxel divisions in the three directions. the proxy object is processed on the client and enables dynamic interactive rendering operations. The simulation mesh is processed on the server and the proxy object on the client is replaced with a real polygonal rendering from the simulation mesh.

Input data is acquired and includes a geometry of an object to be cooled, a design objective, and boundary conditions. Channel designs corresponding to the input data are generated using an iterative topology optimization. One of the channel designs is selected and output.

Methods, systems, and apparatus, including medium-encoded computer program products, for facilitating editing of generative design geometry of physical structures, include a method including: receiving editable smooth surface(s), e.g., a T-Spline, constructed from a mesh obtained using a generative design process; instantiating a parametric feature recipe to connect the editable smooth surface(s) with input solid(s), wherein the parametric feature recipe includes an operation sequence that (i) converts the editable smooth surface(s) into boundary representation format and (ii) combines the boundary representation formatted smooth surface(s) with the input solid(s) to produce a watertight three dimensional model of an object; modifying the editable smooth surface(s) in response to input, while preventing disconnection of the editable smooth surface(s) from the input solid(s); updating a visualization thereof in a user interface; and performing the operation sequence of the parametric feature recipe to produce the watertight three dimensional model of the object.

Facilitated editing of generative design geometry in computer aided design user interface

A method and system provide the ability to modify a three-dimensional (3D) model. The 3D model is obtained and arbitrary faces of the model are selected. Shape modification operations to be performed are prescribed. A deformation lattice is constructed by setting up a lattice structure with control points. A space of the 3D model is mapped to a space of the lattice structure. The deformation lattice is evaluated by deforming the lattice using a selected set of control points. The evaluated deformed model is then output.

Distance field coupled fitted deformation lattices for shape modification

A method and system provide the ability to modify a three-dimensional (3D) model in a shape editing system. The 3D model is obtained and faces of the model are selected as features (S). A subset (S') of the model that are fixed are selected. Shape modification operations to be performed are prescribed. A deformation lattice is constructed by setting up a lattice structure with control points. Parametric space (u,v,w) is defined in terms of vertices of the lattice structure. Euclidean space (x,y,z) of the 3D model is mapped to the parametric space (u,v,w). The deformation lattice is evaluated by selecting control points, and either affine transformations are applied directly to the selected control points, or the deformation lattice is deformed based on a discrete fitting problem. The evaluated deformed model is then output.
