Tubulars are used to seal a leak in completion equipment, such as parted connection (or parted casing) or damaged casing, isolate a casing perforation or an open hole zone, by expanding the tubulars over the leak, perforation, or zone, where the inner diameters of sections of the completion equipment above and below the leak, perforation, or zone are different. Alternatively, the tubulars are used to apply a liner over an open hole section and anchor the liner onto a base casing. The tubulars preferably function as cladding. An apparatus for expanding the tubulars includes a lower fixed-diameter cone, an upper fixed-diameter cone, and a drill pipe passing through the upper fixed-diameter cone and attached to the lower fixed-diameter cone. The drill pipe can slide through the upper fixed-diameter cone or be attached to the upper fixed-diameter cone.

System to seal an expandable tubular across sections having different diameters

An expandable connection is configured such that a metal-to-metal seal is created upon expansion, even under different expansion ratios. The creation of the metal-to-metal seal can rely on a spring-back effect after expansion. A high pressure rating of the metal-to-metal seal that is created can be achieved with an oversized box face thickness. The expandable connection can also be configured to achieve a high tensile efficiency.

A safety joint having threads with a first handedness, for example right-handed threads, to connect the safety joint to an upper drill pipe portion and a lower drill pipe portion. The safety joint includes a releasable threaded connection having a second handedness inverse of the first handedness. The safety joint also includes a hydraulically actuated piston sleeve that locks rotation across the releasable threaded connection. Disconnecting the upper drill pipe portion from the lower drill pipe portion is achieved by moving the piston sleeve to a position wherein the piston sleeve does not transmit rotation across the releasable threaded connection, and rotating the upper drill pipe portion in the first handedness direction to unscrew the releasable threaded connection.

A centralizer comprises a plurality of bow springs, wherein each bow spring has a first and second end. A first collar is coupled to the first end of each of the plurality of bow springs and includes a longitudinal frangible region. A second collar is coupled to the second end of each of the plurality of bow springs and also includes a longitudinal frangible region.

A method of removing an unexpanded shoe comprises disposing a tool in a wellbore. The tool includes a latch assembly and a mill body. The latch assembly is engaged with a shoe assembly that is coupled to the wellbore by a tubular having an expanded portion and an unexpanded portion. The mill body is rotated relative to the latch assembly so as to mill the unexpanded portion of the tubular until the shoe assembly is uncoupled from the wellbore. The tool and the shoe assembly are then pulled through the expanded portion and out of the wellbore.
