A high-pressure discharge lamp has an outer envelope () in which a discharge vessel () is arranged. The discharge vessel encloses a discharge space () with an ionizable filling. The discharge vessel has two mutually opposed neck-shaped portions () through which current supply conductors () extend to a pair of electrodes () in the discharge space. A lamp base () of electrically insulating material supports the discharge vessel. The lamp base also supports the outer envelope (). The outer envelope encloses the current supply conductors and is connected to the lamp base in a gas-tight manner. By controlling the atmosphere in the outer envelope, a simplified and compact high-pressure discharge lamp is provided with an accurate positioning of the discharge vessel with respect to the optical axis of the lighting system. The high-pressure discharge lamp can be suitably applied in an assembly with a reflector.

The invention relates to a high-pressure discharge lamp with an outer envelope () in which a discharge vessel () is arranged around a longitudinal axis (). The discharge vessel encloses, in a gastight manner, a discharge space () provided with an ionizable filling. The discharge vessel has a first () and a second () mutually opposed neck-shaped portion through which a first () and a second () current-supply conductor, respectively, extend to a pair of electrodes () arranged in the discharge space (). The outer envelope () has a bulb-shaped portion () adjacent the discharge space with a wall thickness d. The remainder of the outer envelope has a wall thickness d. The ratio of dand dis in the range: Formula (I). Preferably, Formula (II), the bulb-shaped portion is formed in a mold. A simplified and compact high-pressure discharge lamp is provided by the invention.

The invention relates to a metal halide lamp having a nominal power of more than 100 W, comprising a discharge vessel with a ceramic wall. The discharge vessel encloses a discharge space having an ionizable filling which, in addition to Hg, contains a quantity of iodide of Na, Tl, Ho and Ca. Two electrodes each having an electrode tip at a mutual distance EA are arranged inside the discharge vessel. The discharge vessel has a cylindrical part with an internal diameter ID and extends through at least the distance EA. According to the invention, the relation EA/ID<1 is satisfied.

Metal halide lamp

A metal halide lamp includes a discharge vessel with a ceramic wall and a filling which comprises besides mercury and a halogen also Na, Tl and one or several of the elements from the group formed by Sc, Y and lanthanides. The filling also contains Mg to improve lumen maintenance.
