Elastic fibers are described that comprise (i) a polyolefin polymer, e.g., a homogeneously branched, preferably substantially linear, ethylene polymer, and (ii) a photoinitiator, e.g., an aromatic ketone, in an amount sufficient to effect at least a partial cross-linking of the polymer when the fiber is exposed to sufficient UV-radiation to activate the photoinitiator. Articles, e.g., fabrics, comprising fibers of this invention, either alone or in combination with one or more other fibers, e.g., cellulose, nylon, etc., exhibit good heat resistance and elasticity at elevated temperatures.

Crosslinked elastic fibers

The present invention relates to elastic articles comprising a crosslinked or crosslinkable ethylene polymer and a method for making the same. In particular, the invention relates to a shaped article (e.g. film or fiber) characterized by improved elasticity at elevated temperatures and comprising a substantially cured, irradiated, or crosslinked (or curable, irradiated or crosslinkable) homogeneously branched ethylene polymer. The improved elastic article of the present invention is particularly suitable for use in applications where good elasticity must be maintained at elevated temperatures such as, for example, personal hygiene items and disposable infection-control garments at body temperatures of about 100&deg; F. (38&deg; C.).

Articles having elevated temperature elasticity made from irradiated and crosslinked ethylene polymers and method for making the same

A polycarbonate blend composition with a good balance of high impact resistance, moldability, and controllable gloss with reduced tendencies of pearlescence or delamination in molded articles is prepared by admixing with polycarbonate a substantially linear ethylene polymer or linear ethylene polymer, an olefinic epoxide-containing copolymer, and a polyester.

Polycarbonate blend compositions

Disclosed is a carbonate polymer composition comprising (a) a carbonate polymer having a weight average molecular weight of from about 20,000 to about 40,000 and (b) from greater than about 0.1 to less than about 1.0 weight percent (based on carbonate polymer composition weight) low volatility aromatic phosphate ester compound, and optionally (c) from about 0.001 to about 0.1 weight percent (based on carbonate polymer compositions weight) of an alkali metal salt having a pH of at least about 7. Preferably the low volatility aromatic phosphate ester is selected from the group of aromatic phosphate ester oligomer compounds or haloaryl phosphate compounds. It has been found to be preferable to use a low volatility aromatic phosphate ester which experiences a weight loss of no more than 5 weight percent at 250.degree. C. when heated to a temperature of 500.degree. C. in a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) at a heating rate of 20.degree. C. per minute, more preferably no more than 40 percent at 300.degree. C. It has been found that these compositions surprisingly achieve the Underwriters Laboratory (UL-94) V-2 rating without significantly sacrificing the otherwise good combinations of properties of carbonate polymer resins.
