An IR and/or UV machine-readable optical security device (e.g., micro-optic security thread) that is made up of at least one IR-absorbing component with a characteristic IR signature detectable at two or more IR-wavelengths, at least one UV-absorbing component with a characteristic UV signature detectable at two or more UV-wavelengths, at least one IR-absorbing component that absorbs IR light and emits light at a different invisible wavelength, at least one UV-absorbing component that absorbs UV light and emits light at a different invisible wavelength, or a combination thereof, is provided. The IR and UV machine-readable features do not interfere with the optical effects projected by the optical material.

Machine-readable optical security device

A security device () includes one or more arrangements of image icons (), one or more arrangements of refractive image icon focusing elements (), and a sealing layer () which includes an organic resin and nanoparticles. Further, the one or more arrangements of refractive image icon focusing elements is disposed above the one or more arrangements of image icons such that a portion of the one or more arrangements of refractive image icon focusing elements forms a synthetic image of a portion of the one or more arrangements of image icons. Still further, the one or more arrangements of refractive image icon focusing elements contact the sealing layer along a non-planar boundary.

Use of nanoparticles to tune index of refraction of layers of a polymeric matrix to optimize microoptic (MO) focus

A security device includes an arrangement of image icon focusing elements, wherein each image icon focusing element of the arrangement of image icon focusing elements is associated with a focal path. The device further includes an image icon layer with one or more image icons associated with a first characteristic color and one or more image icons associated with a second characteristic color and one or more regions between the image icons comprising a volume of substantially colorless material. At a first viewing angle, a color is visible through each image icon focusing element, and the color visible through each image icon focusing element at the first viewing angle is based on one or more of the first characteristic color, the second characteristic color, or the substantially colorless material.

Surface applied micro-optic anti-counterfeit security device

There is described a method for forming lenses having substantially no optical power. The method includes forming, via in situ polymerization, a layer of non-uniform thickness of an optically clear, high scratch-resistant polymeric material on the convex surface of the lens. The lenses provided by the method are characterized by having maximum thickness in the central region of the lens and gradually diminishing thickness radially towards the periphery of the lens.

Shaped plastic lenses and method for making the same

Plastic lenses having substantially no optical power and a light-polarizing layer therein are prepared by shaping composite laminate of the light-polarizing layer between opposed sheets of thermoplastic material by heating and pressing the laminate between opposed shaping molds (platens), the platens having predetermined radii of curvature for the production of a lens having substantially no optical power. Shaping is effected under conditions of heating and pressing sufficient to cause flow of the thermoplastic sheets and conformation thereof to the respective curvatures of the forming surfaces of the platens. The lenses are especially suited as sunglass lenses for spectacles.
