A refractory article includes a body having a first portion defining at least a portion of a first exterior surface of the body, the first portion including a carbide, and further including a second portion defining at least a portion of a second exterior surface of the body opposite the first exterior surface, the second portion including an oxide, and a thermal conductivity difference (&#x394;TC) of at least 10 W/mK between the first exterior surface and the second exterior surface, and an average Shell Temperature of not greater than 400&#xb0; C.

Refractory articles and methods for forming same

A refractory article can include a body including a content of alumina of at least 60 wt %, a content of silica of not greater than 20 wt %, a content of zirconia of not greater than 20 wt % for a total weight of the body. In a particular embodiment, the body includes a third phase including composite grains including mullite and zirconia. The third phase including the composite grains can be present within a range including at least 1 wt % and not greater than 35 wt % for a total weight of the body.

A light weight, high strength ternary or higher-order cast beryllium-aluminum alloy, including approximately 60 to 70 weight % beryllium, one or both of from approximately 0.5 to 4 weight % silicon and from 0.2 to 4.25 weight % silver, with the balance aluminum. Beryllium strengthening elements selected from the group consisting of copper, nickel, or cobalt may be present at from 0.1 to 2.0 weight % of the alloy to increase the alloy strength.

Light weight, high strength beryllium-aluminum alloy

A light weight, high strength ternary or higher-order cast beryllium-aluminum alloy, including approximately 60 to 70 weight % beryllium, one or both of from approximately 0.5 to 4 weight % silicon and from 0.2 to 4.25 weight % silver, with the balance aluminum. Beryllium strengthening elements selected from the group consisting of copper, nickel, or cobalt may be present at from 0.1 to 0.75 weight % of the alloy to increase the alloy strength.

A light weight, high strength quaternary or higher-order cast beryllium-aluminum alloy, including approximately 60 to 70 weight % beryllium, and from approximately 0.2 to 5 weight % germanium and from 0.2 to 4.25 weight % silver, with the balance aluminum. Beryllium strengthening elements selected from the group consisting of copper, nickel, or cobalt may be present at from 0.1 to 5.0 weight % of the alloy to increase the alloy strength.

Ductile, light weight, high strength beryllium-aluminum cast composite

A high strength and ductile depleted uranium alloy including two or three alloying elements, two of which are molybdenum and titanium, in which the total weight percent of all of the alloying elements makes up no more than 2% of the alloy weight, in which there is from 0.75 to 1.50 weight % molybdenum, and 0.30 to 0.70 weight % titanium.
