A display apparatus includes a display panel, a driving controller and a data driver. The driving controller divides input image data into a plurality of partial image data corresponding to a plurality of display areas of the display panel, calculates local loads corresponding to the plurality of partial image data, determines a scale factor based on the local loads, and applies the scale factor to the input image data to generate a data signal. The data driver converts the data signal to a data voltage and outputs the data voltage to the display panel. The scale factor for a center display area corresponding to a center of the display panel among the plurality of display areas is determined differently from the scale factor for an edge display area corresponding to an edge of the display panel among the plurality of display areas.

A display apparatus includes: a display panel; a driving controller, which receives input image data including a plurality of normal image frames and a plurality of black image frames, receives a flag indicating a type of each of frames included in the input image data, generates intermediate image data by adjusting a grayscale of the input image data based on the input image data and the flag, and generates a data signal based on the intermediate image data where the type includes a normal image frame and a black image frame; and a data driver, which generates a data voltage based on the data signal and outputs the data voltage to the display panel.

A display device includes a display panel including a plurality of pixels, a current sensor that senses a sensing current that flows through the pixels, and a data compensator. The data compensator calculates a target current from an image frame of input image data using a current deviation for each position of the image frame and a current contribution ratio for each color of the image frame, and that generates a scale factor by comparing the target current and the sensing current. The display device further includes a timing controller that generates output image data by scaling grayscale values of the input image data using the scale factor; and a data driver that provides a data signal corresponding to the output image data to the pixels.

A display device includes a display panel, a driving controller, and a voltage generator. The display panel includes a plurality of pixels. Each of the pixels receives a driving voltage through a first voltage line. The driving controller receives an input image signal including first to third color signals and outputs a voltage control signal for controlling a voltage level of the driving voltage based on the first to third color signals. The voltage generator provides the driving voltage to the first voltage line and determines the voltage level of the driving voltage based on the voltage control signal. The controller determines whether a gray scale value of the input image data is included in any range of a first gray scale range and a second gray scale range different from the first gray scale range, and dithers the input image data when it is determined that the gray scale value of the input image data is included the first gray scale range.

The driving controller is configured to generate the compensated image data by comparing a maximum value among subpixel grayscale values of the input image data to which a luminance compensating coefficient is applied and a maximum grayscale value of the input image data. The luminance compensating coefficient is configured to be determined according to a location in the display panel.

Display apparatus and method of driving display panel using the same

A display apparatus includes a display panel including a plurality of pixels, and a driver which receives input image data, generates final image data by compensating the input image data to increase luminances of pixels disposed in at least one edge portion of the display panel among the plurality of pixels, and drives the display panel based on the final image data. The input image data for a pixel of the pixels is compensated based on a compensation constant determined according to a position of the pixel when the input image data for the pixel represents a gray level higher than or equal to a first reference gray level, and is compensated based on a reduced compensation constant that is reduced from the determined compensation constant when the input image data for the pixel represents the gray level lower than the first reference gray level.
