A defroster is provided in a refrigerator, in which a damper mounted to an inlet to a circulating duct controls air to flow in a reverse direction toward an evaporator to maximize a defrosting efficiency by using not only radiant heat but also convective heat. The defroster includes the evaporator, a heater that defrosts the evaporator by radiation, and a flow controller that controls air circulated by a fan to flow in a reverse direction toward the evaporator in defrosting.

A refrigerator includes an ice dispenser with a duct cap for opening and closing an ice duct of the dispenser. A user operated lever is operably coupled to both the duct cap, and a joint member. A frictional member is disposed to come in frictional contact with the joint member as the duct cap moves between open and closed position. An elastic member elastically supports the joint member with respect to the lever. The closing operation of the duct cap is delayed by using a frictional force developed between the joint member and the frictional member.

A dispenser for a refrigerator is provided. A refrigerator is provided which includes a duct cap disposed so as to open and close an ice duct formed in the refrigerator, an opening and closing device connected so as to open and close the duct cap, and a damper connected to one of the duct cap and the opening and closing device such that a closing operation of the duct cap is delayed. The opening and closing device allows the duct cap to be manually opened and closed, and the damper is interlocked with the opening and closing device so as to delay a closing operation of the duct cap. With this structure, cost may be reduced and noise and/or vibration minimized, compared with mechanisms with the closing operation of the duct cap delayed using electric driving parts, such as solenoids.

A refrigerator with an ice dispenser includes a spiral type time delay unit for controlling the opening and closing of an ice duct. A duct cap opens and closes an ice duct formed in the refrigerator. A rotating shaft of the time delay unit is operably connected to the duct cap. Foldaway catching members on a rotating shaft intersect with a threaded cylindrical body. The catching members fold back to allow a quick opening of the ice duct. The catching members then interact with the threaded cylindrical body as the ice duct closes to delay the closing process.

A refrigerator includes: a refrigerator body having a cooling chamber for storing food items and a mechanic chamber provided at one side thereof; a heat exchanger disposed in the mechanic chamber and performing heat exchanging while a refrigerant passes therethrough; a cross flow fan disposed facing the heat exchanger and blowing air for heat exchange; and a compressor mounted inside the mechanic chamber and compressing a refrigerant. A space for the mechanic chamber can be reduced, and thus, a cooling chamber for keeping food items can be enlarged.

A heat exchanger comprising a plurality of refrigerant pipes bent many times for passing a refrigerant for heat exchange; and cooling fins arranged at an outer circumference surface of the refrigerant pipes for expanding a contact area of air which passes through the refrigerant pipes, wherein a direction that the refrigerant pipes are bent is a major axis and a perpendicular direction to the major axis is a minor axis. In the heat exchanger, a bending portion of the refrigerant pipe is prevented from being distorted thus to have a smooth refrigerant flow and enhance a heat exchange performance.
