An electron gun body for a color cathode ray tube includes an electron beam forming region formed by cathodes, first and second grids, and a main focusing lens having first and second accelerating and focusing electrodes for substantially focusing three electron beams from the electron beam forming region. The first and second accelerating and focusing electrodes are provided with through holes for passing the three electron beams and upper rims respectively bent from the outer circumferences of the electrodes toward the through holes, in which a first inclined extension electrode having a vertically-provided sloped portion and bottom portion, and a center hole opened to reach a bent plane of the sloped portion in the bottom portion is installed into the first accelerating and focusing electrode to fix one side of the first inclined extension electrode to connect with an inwardly-bent portion of the one upper rim, and a second inclined extension electrode having projections parallel in both directions on the same plane of a head portion is installed into the second accelerating and focusing electrode, while forming the vertical inner diameter of the projection to be smaller than that of the upper rim, to fix one side of the second inclined extension electrode to connect with an inwardly-bent portion of the other upper rim. Thus, astigmatism is eliminated without using a separate correction electrode to improve resolution on the periphery of a screen.

An electron gun for a color cathode-ray tube for providing a passage for a plurality of electron beams, each beam representing a color component for forming a color image. The electron gun of the present invention includes a pair of electrodes substantially symmetrical to one another with respect to the horizontal direction and coaxial with the tube in the axial direction. Each electrode has a common opening. Each common opening faces the other and is spaced from the other at a given distance in the axial direction. According to an embodiment of the present invention, each electrode includes first and second electrode member. The first electrode member inside the electrode is spaced at a given distance from the common opening of the electrode in the axial direction. The first electrode member includes a plurality of openings in cascade in the horizontal direction, and these openings partially overlap one another and communicate to one another collectively to form a singly aperture. Each opening corresponds to a respective one of the plurality of electron beams. The second electrode member inside the electrode is spaced from the first electrode member at a given distance in the axial direction and further away from the common opening of the electrode than the first electrode member.

An electron gun for a color cathode-ray tube for enhancing the convergence characteristics and removing the flare of beam spot formed at the boundary of screen, includes first and second grid electrodes and a first accelerating and focusing electrode each having first, second and third electron beam passing holes for allowing first, second and third electron beams emitted from cathodes to pass therethrough so as to be accelerated and focused; first and third slots formed around the first and third electron beam passing holes and having asymmetrical depth for allowing equipotential intervals at inner side to be larger than equipotential intervals at outer side, the first and third electron beam passing holes being symmetrical to each other with respect to the second electron beam passing hole; and a second slot formed around the second electron beam passing hole and provided with a symmetrical depth so as to have same equipotential interval at its inner and outer side with respect to the center of the second electron beam passing hole.

An electron gun for color cathode ray tube is disclosed which includes: a triode section for forming the thermionic electrons from the cathode into electron beams; a multistep focusing type electrostatic lens means for focusing the electron beams from the triode section. The characteristic feature of the present invention is that: an electrostatic lens is formed through the combination of a UPF type electrostatic lens and a BPF type electrostatic lens; and another UPF type electrostatic lens is formed between the electrodes disposed closely to the triode section among the UPF type or BPF type electrostatic lens forming electrodes, so as for a multiplex multistep focusing type electrostatic lens to be formed. According to the present invention, the spherical aberration acting on the electron beams at the main electrostatic focusing lens can be largely eliminated, and therefore, a high quality picture can be obtained.

An electron gun for a color cathode-ray tube includes a triode, a pre-stage auxiliary electrostatic focusing lens, a fourth grid electrode, a first accelerating/focusing lower electrode assembly, and a main electrostatic focusing lens formed between a first accelerating/focusing upper electrode assembly and a second accelerating/focusing electrode. In the electron gun, the electron beam horizontally extended by the magnetic quadrupole lens of the deflection magnetic field is compensated by vertically extending the horizontally extended electron beam before the deflection magnetic field is entered by the electrostatic quadrupole lens which varies according to the deflected amount of the electron beam and round beam sports obtained in the vicinity of the screen edge as well as at the center of the screen, so that the halo portions of a low electron density surrounding the core portion of a high electron density forming a beam spot is greatly reduced to obtain a good resolution characteristic.
