A method for scheduling a meeting using an email client that is part of an email system includes receiving a request at the email client to schedule the meeting. The request may include an indication of the resources that are to be provided by a conferencing system for the meeting. The method also includes communicating the request to a conference bridge that is part of the conferencing system and receiving from the conference bridge an access code associated with the meeting. The method also includes appending the access code to a meeting invitation associated with the meeting and providing the meeting invitation to an email server that is part of the email system. The method also includes sending the meeting invitation to users invited to participate in the meeting.

Synchronization between conference and calendar systems

A method for providing a status to a plurality of devices in a distributed VoIP system includes circulating a first status data packet between each device in the first group of devices and circulating a second status data packet between each device in the second group of devices. One device in the first group of devices participates in circulating both the first status data packet and the second status data packet, while the other devices in the first group of devices circulate only the first status data packet. One device in the second group of devices participates in circulating both the first status data packet and the second status data packet, while the other devices in the second group of devices circulate only the second status data packet.

A method for providing conference information to attendees of a conference call near real time using a plurality of conference bridges includes receiving the conference information at a first conference bridge. The conference information is generated in response to input from a participant in the conference call using a first device. The method also includes providing the conference information from the first conference bridge to a first group of attendees. The method also includes providing the conference information from the first conference bridge to a second conference bridge separate from the first conference bridge, and providing the conference information from the second conference bridge to a second group of attendees.

Providing conference information in a distributed conferencing system

A method for providing conference information to attendees of a conference call near real time using a plurality of conference bridges includes receiving the conference information at a first conference bridge. The conference information may include at least one of video or web data generated in response to input from a participant in the conference call using a first device. The method also includes providing the conference information from the first conference bridge to a first group of attendees. The method also includes providing the conference information from the first conference bridge to a second conference bridge separate from the first conference bridge, and providing the conference information from the second conference bridge to a second group of attendees.

A method for resolving conflicts between conference bridges in a distributed conferencing system includes determining that a conflict exists between a first conference bridge and a second conference bridge. The conflict may arise from the first conference bridge and the second conference bridge independently providing a meeting resource for a first meeting. The method also includes determining at the first conference bridge and at the second conference bridge that the meeting resource is to be provided by the first conference bridge. In determining that the meeting resource is to be provided by the first conference bridge, there is a probability of determining that the meeting resource is to be provided by the second conference bridge. The method also includes, providing the meeting resource for the first meeting at the first conference bridge and stopping providing the meeting resource for the first meeting at the second conference bridge.

Resolving conflicts in distributed systems

A method for providing a status of a device to a plurality of devices in a distributed system includes receiving a status data packet from the device, the status data packet including the status of the device. The method also includes saving the status of the device to a memory and obtaining a list of the plurality of devices in the distributed system. The list is associated with a sequence for circulating the status data packet between the plurality of devices. The method further includes sending the status data packet including the status of the device to a next device in the sequence.

A computer system (a method) for exchanging information such as a Universal Resource Locator (URL) or a Universal Resource Identifier (URI) over a communication channel in general and over a telephone communications channel in particular in a unified communications system is disclosed. In one embodiment, the system comprises a phone URL exchange unit configured to receive a phone URL exchange request from a first endpoint, to determine the URL to be sent and URL encoding method based on the request, to encode the URL into audio data or as a part of the communications control signals using the URL encoding method and to send the encoded data to a second endpoint over the telephone communications channel. The phone URL exchange unit is further configured to receive audio data or the communications control signals embedded with a URL and to decode the received data to reveal the URL.
