A film image input system is disclosed which can use a film cartridge constructed in such a manner that it requires a small space for storing a developed still photo film and also can protect the film against dust and damage, and also which allows the film cartridge to be mounted into a cartridge mounting part very simply and positively. The film image input system,is arranged such that it reproduces the image of the developed still photo film,on a video monitor,. The system uses a film cartridge,which comprises a cartridge main body having an outlet opening,for sending out the film,in the longitudinal direction thereof, a single spool which fixes one end of the film,in the longitudinal direction thereof and round which the whole length of the film,can be wound, and support means for supporting the spool in such a manner that it can be rotated in both directions. The film image input system includes film supply means,which is engageable with the spool of the film cartridge,to rotationally drive the spool in a direction to send out the film,from the cartridge main body and in a direction to rewind the film back into the cartridge main body. Due to this, the film image can be reproduced by one touch on the video monitor

A film image input system is disclosed which can use a film cartridge constructed in such a manner that it requires a small space for storing a developed still photo film and also can protect the film against dust and damage, and also which allows the film cartridge to be mounted into a cartridge mounting part very simply and positively. The film image input system 1 is arranged such that it reproduces the image of the developed still photo film 2 on a video monitor 18. The system uses a film cartridge 6 which comprises a cartridge main body having an outlet opening 7 for sending out the film 2 in the longitudinal direction thereof, a single spool which fixes one end of the film 2 in the longitudinal direction thereof and round which the whole length of the film 2 can be wound, and support means for supporting the spool in such a manner that it can be rotated in both directions. The film image input system includes film supply means 13 which is engageable with the spool of the film cartridge 6 to rotationally drive the spool in a direction to send out the film 2 from the cartridge main body and in a direction to rewind the film back into the cartridge main body. Due to this, the film image can be reproduced by one touch on the video monitor 18.

Standard film packages and telephoto-type film packages and panoramic film packages are produced using the same standardized package bodies which are adapted to photograph full-size frames on 35-mm film. In the factory, each package body is loaded with a photographic film, and indicia of the type of the film package to be produced are provided on the photographic film or a cassette for containing the photographic film, as well as on the film package. When printing a photographic film having been loaded into such a standard film package, substantially the whole area of the full-size frame is printed to make a standard print, whereas printing of photographic films that have been loaded into the telephoto-type film package and the panoramic-type film package is performed such that only a partial area of the full-size frame is printed at different print magnifications which are larger than that used for standard prints. The fields of view in the viewfinders of the telephoto-type film package and the panoramic film package are changed from that of the standard film package, so as to correspond to the respective areas to be printed for making telephoto prints and panoramic prints.

In a camera, one of a plurality of predetermined print aspect ratios is selected for each scene by manual operation of a print mode selection switch, and mechanically readable data representing the print aspect ratio is thereby recorded on the photographic film for each original frame during photographing. The original frames are recorded at a constant taking aspect ratio in the same size on the photographic film. During printing, the trimming data is read from the photographic film, and a part of the original frame that excludes both lateral sides of the original frame is printed based on the trimming data, so as to make a photographic print having the selected print aspect ratio. The camera is provided with a device for changing the field of view, that cooperates with the print mode selection switch, so as to change the aspect ratio of the field of view in accordance with the selected aspect ratio. The photographic film has been previously recorded with several pairs of marks, each pair indicating lateral side border lines of a trimming range which corresponds to one of the predetermined selectable print aspect ratios. A visible mark corresponding to one of the previously recorded marks that indicate the trimming range selected for each original frame, is also recorded on the photographic film during photographing.

In a film cassette, a spool having a roll of film wound on it is rotatable within a cassette body, but the film leader of this film does not protrude from the cassette body. The roll of film is held between a pair of flanges of the spool or the film roll is pressed by a projecting member and a resilient member disposed on the inner wall of the cassette body. Thus the roll of film, when the spool is rotated, is also rotated together with it. As a result, the film leader is fed outside the cassette. In order to prevent light from entering the cassette from the film withdrawing slot, the film withdrawing slot is closed by a cover member and a mask. Also, by virture of a provision of a film passage extending within the cassette in a curved state or by mounting a projecting portion on the film leader, the interior of the cassette is masked.

Film cassette

A developed photographic film is contained in a cartridge such that the leader end of the photographic film does not protrude from the cartridge, the film being wound on a spool. In one embodiment, the cartridge has a notch formed in the side of a port portion. The photographic film is pushed out of the cartridge by a sprocket accessed to this notch when extra prints are made. In another embodiment, two roll chambers are connected with each other through a bridge portion having an aperture for exposing a picture frame. A further embodiment includes a splice tape connected at one end to the spool, the photographic film being connected to the spool through this splice tape. These respective embodiments can also be used as a container for containing an unexposed photographic film.
