A multi-channel mode converter operating with a series of TE or TM mode electromagnetic wave includes a plurality of coaxial waveguides arranged in overlay configuration. By controlling radius ratio and the number of coupling aperture of each coaxial waveguide, high power and high purity of operating mode of electromagnetic wave can be obtained and the major parasitic mode of electromagnetic wave can be suppressed, so as to avoid crosstalk between coaxial waveguides. A rotary joint including the above-mentioned mode converter with multi-channel is also disclosed.

A mode-selective interactive structure for gyrotrons includes a plurality of metal tubes, wherein an inner wall of each metal tube forms a waveguide; and between each adjacent pair of the metal tubes exists a slice with a first interface and a second interface and when an electromagnetic wave comprising an operating mode and a competing mode propagates through the slice, the competing mode is partially reflected upon, partially transmitted through and/or absorbed at the first interface and the second interface of the slice so that the power loss of the competing mode is larger than the operating mode and the production of the competing modes is suppressed progressively thereby achieving mode selection.

Mode-selective interactive structure for gyrotrons

An isolated dual-mode converter includes a TEmode converter including a circular waveguide, and a plurality of rectangular waveguides connected to the circumference of the circular waveguide; and a TMmode converter including a coaxial waveguide, formed by coaxial outer and inner conductors, and the circular waveguide connected and aligned axially with the coaxial waveguide, wherein a symmetrical axis of an opening at the end of the rectangular waveguides connected to the circular waveguide is parallel to the axis of the circular waveguide, thereby avoiding interfering with the propagation of TMmode. In an application, the isolated dual-mode converter outputs TEmode and TMmode at the same port, thereby achieving more uniform microwave heating. In another application, two isolated dual-mode converters are aligned face-to-face, forming a dual-channel joint with high channel isolation and low transmission loss, which may be used for a rotary joint of a radar system.
