Systems and methods are provided for dynamically activating and deactivating hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ). The system includes a base station, user equipment (UE), and a processor. The method provides for determining a first signal quality measurement for the signal quality between the base station and the UE. The first signal quality measurement is then compared with a predetermined signal quality threshold. If the first signal quality measurement is below the predetermined signal quality threshold the UE is directed to activate HARQ. If the first signal quality measurement is above the predetermined signal quality threshold the UE is directed to deactivate HARQ if HARQ is currently active.

A polarized antenna system having a plurality of differently-polarized antennas is envisioned for wirelessly communicating with a plurality of user devices in a wireless network environment.
