A two-stroke internal combustion engine includes at least one gaseous communication charge passage between a crankcase chamber and a combustion chamber of the engine and a piston to open and close the top end of the transfer passage. The air inlet port to the transfer passage for stratified scavenging is opened and closed by the piston that has passages and cutouts. The charge inlet to the crankcase chamber is opened and closed by the piston. The air inlet passage is substantially asymmetrical to the layout of the transfer passages and are closer to one transfer passage compared to the other. The internal air passage in the piston is substantially parallel to the piston pin and the single air inlet passage is laterally off-set from the air-fuel inlet passage. The transfer passages are cover by plates to make them closed passages having opening at the transfer port in the cylinder and opening in the crankcase chamber for periodical gaseous communication between the crankcase chamber and the combustion chamber. The cover plate is a single piece covering the transfer passage channel along the cylinder and the crankcase. The air channel in the piston is below the piston crown and at least portion is above the piston pin. A spiraling transfer passage in the cylinder cavity is longer than the length of the transfer passage in a conventional stratified two-stroke engine.

Four cycle engine carburetors

Various embodiments include two-stroke stratified engines and dual passage carburetors for use with gaseous fuel, such as hydrogen, methane, liquid petroleum gas, pure propane, and butane. A stratified air-head engine and low pressure fuel injected engines with fuel only tube is included.

Stratified two-stroke engine and dual passage fuel system

An integrally cast four-stroke engine mono-block includes integrally cast cylinder block, cylinder head, and portion of a crankcase including crankcase outboard and inboard walls. At least parts of outer and inner bearing bosses are integrally cast with the cylinder block with the inner bearing boss integrally cast in the inboard wall. At least one cored out longitudinally extending open valve train chamber is disposed between the outboard wall and the cast cylinder block. An alternative embodiment of the integrally cast four-stroke engine mono-block includes at least parts of an outer bearing boss and/or an inner bearing boss integrally cast in the outboard and inboard walls respectively with the cast cylinder block. At least one cored out longitudinally extending open valve train chamber is disposed between the outboard wall and the cast cylinder block. Push tube passages or a belt drive passage may be in the valve train chamber.

An integrally cast four-stroke engine mono-block () includes integrally cast cylinder block (), cylinder head (), and portion of a crankcase () including crankcaseoutboard and inboard walls (). At least parts of outer and inner bearing bosses () are integrally cast with the cylinder block () with the inner bearing boss () integrally cast in the inboard wall (). At least one cored out longitudinally extending open valvetrain chamber () is disposed between the outboard wall () and the cast cylinder block ().

Integrally cast block and gaseous fuel injected generator engine

A two-stroke internal combustion engine includes at least one gaseous communication charge passage between a crankcase chamber and a combustion chamber of the engine and a piston to open and close the top end of the transfer passage. The air inlet port to the transfer passage for stratified scavenging is opened and closed by the piston that has passages and cutouts. The charge inlet to the crankcase chamber is opened and closed by the piston. The air and charge inlet passages are substantially asymmetrical to the layout of the transfer passages and are closer to one transfer passage compared to the other. The internal air passage in the piston is substantially perpendicular to the piston pin.

Two-stroke engine

A low pressure, low cost electronic fuel injection system () for small hand-held two cycle engines () is provided which employs a number of improvements, including by way of example and not of limitation, an improved low cost injector construction (), a throttle body integration () that includes mounting the operational components of the supply system on a single unit, an improved ignition module (), a pressure regulated fuel system controlled by an electronic control unit () employing and an adaptive algorithm based on engine speed which controls the speed by varying the amount of fuel provided to the engine.

Small engine operation components

A stratified two-stroke engine having a laminated counterweight is disclosed. The laminated counterweight includes a traditional counterweight portion and a laminate portion. The laminate portion has an approximately circular peripheral shape and at least one notch. In operation, the notch may be used to time the opening and closing of a mixture port or a transfer port.

A cylinder crankcase for a four-stroke engine is disclosed. The cylinder crankcase includes a cylinder head, cylinder block, and crankcase which are monolithic. A half-crank crankshaft bears in a crank arm, which is included in the crankcase. The cylinder crankcase includes a belt driven valve train and crank arm that includes a pocket containing a crank gear attached to the crankshaft for driving the belt.

A cylinder-crankcase is disclosed that includes a cylinder block having a cylinder head for receiving a spark plug. The cylinder-crankcase also includes a crankcase and a crank arm for supporting a crankshaft. The cylinder block, cylinder head, crankcase and crank arm are a single, monolithic piece.

A muffler with a housing for receiving exhaust gasses from an engine is disclosed. The muffler includes a housing with an inlet and an exit, a baffle plate partitioning the housing into first and second chambers. The baffle plate includes a catalyst receptacle in the first chamber, the second chamber includes the exit of the housing. A catalytic converter element with a longitudinal axis is housed within the catalyst receptacle, the catalytic converter element is positioned within the catalyst receptacle such that exhaust gas passes through the catalytic converter element in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the catalytic converter element and through the second chamber to exit the housing.

A two-stroke internal combustion engine is provided with a fuel injector. The two-stroke internal combustion engine may have at least one transfer passage, an air channel, and a fuel injector. The transfer passage is between a crankcase and a combustion chamber of the engine. The air channel is in gaseous communication with a top portion of the transfer channel. The fuel injector is in gaseous communication with the air channel and injects fuel into the air channel. The two-stroke engine may be used on hand-held, lawn and garden equipment.

A carburetor including a frame having a first air/fuel channel and a second air channel; and a throttle valve assembly connected to the frame and having two valve sections. Each valve section is located in a respective one of the channels. A second one of the valve sections has an air bleed hole therethrough. The second valve section is movable relative to the frame from a first idle position to a second intermediate closed position and then to a third open position at a wide open throttle (WOT). The air bleed hole allows flow through the second channel at the first idle position, but does not allow flow through the second channel when the second valve section is at the second intermediate closed position.

A two-stroke internal combustion engine includes dual transfer passages in gaseous communication between a crankcase chamber and a combustion chamber of the engine, an air passage through the crankcase to the crankcase chamber and in gaseous communication with a carburetor of the engine. A rotatable circular disk or crank-web is rotatably connected to a crankshaft. A piston may be used to open and close a top end of the passages. An air inlet port to the transfer passage for stratified scavenging is opened and closed by the crank-web that has passages and cutouts. The rotary valve replaces the one-way reed valve used in stratified scavenged and charged two-stroke engines. The air passes from lower ends of the transfer passages to top ends and into the crankcase through a piston passage, through the adjacent transfer passages directly, or through a passage in the piston into the crankcase.

Stratified scavenged two-stroke engine

A two cycle internal combustion engine cylinder having a piston chamber. The cylinder includes transfer ports; and an exhaust port divided into at least two sections. A first one of the sections has an aperture at the piston chamber with a top surface located closer to a top of the piston chamber than a top surface of an aperture of a second one of the sections at the piston chamber. The first section has a cross-sectional area which is smaller than a cross-sectional area of the second section. The aperture into the first section is located further away from the transfer ports than the aperture into the second section.
