Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a synchronization signal block (SSB) comprising a plurality of symbols. The UE may obtain, during a plurality of measurement windows, a plurality of measurements associated with a beam group of a plurality of reception beams corresponding to a plurality of symbols of the SSB, wherein the beam group is associated with a serving cell and comprises a first set of beams and a second set of beams, wherein each beam of the beam group corresponds to a measurement window having a window size that is less than a size of a corresponding symbol of the plurality of symbols of the SSB. The UE may perform a wireless communication task based on the plurality of measurements. Numerous other aspects are described.

Obtaining a plurality of measurements associated with a plurality of symbols of a synchronization signal block

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment (UE) may measure a reference signal over a first subset of a set of measurement occasions using a serving UE receive beam according to a serving beam measurement periodicity. The UE may measure the reference signal over a second subset of the set of measurement occasions using a first subset of candidate UE receive beams of a set of candidate UE receive beams. The UE may measure the reference signal over a third subset of the set of measurement occasions using a second subset of candidate UE receive beams of the set of candidate UE receive beams. The UE may perform beam switching to a candidate UE receive beam of the set of candidate UE receive beams based at least in part on a result of measuring the reference signal.

User receive beam measurement prioritization

Wireless communications systems and methods related to monitoring and/or measuring synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) in one or more beam directions based on timing offsets associated with the beam directions are provided. In some aspects, a method of wireless communication performed by a user equipment (UE) includes: receiving, from a wireless communication device, a synchronization signal block (SSB); and measuring, based on timing offsets for each of a plurality of beams of the SSB, one or multiple beams of the SSB. In some instances, the UE determines a number of beams of the SSB to measure based on the timing offsets for each of the plurality of beams of the SSB.

Timing-aware scheduling

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The method includes receiving control signaling indicating for the UE to monitor a set of multiple synchronization signal blocks during a first transmission time interval, determining a priority order of the set of multiple synchronization signal blocks based on a number of beam switch events that occur during the first transmission time interval exceeding a beam switch capability limit of the UE, performing a set of multiple beam measurements of at least a subset of the set of multiple synchronization signal blocks that occur during the first transmission time interval according to the priority order of the set of multiple synchronization signal blocks, and transmitting a beam report to a base station based on the set of multiple beam measurements.

Synchronization signal block prioritization for physical broadcast channel based beam measurements

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The method, systems, and devices may include techniques for establishing a first connection with a first cell operating in accordance with a first radio access technology (RAT), and performing a beam sweep procedure for one or more candidate beams for adding or handover to a second cell operating in accordance with millimeter wave (mmW) RAT. The beam sweep procedure may be performed based on previous beam measurements stored in a measurement database. The techniques may further include selecting a beam from the one or more candidate beams for adding or handover to the second cell based on the beam sweep procedure, and adding or handing over to the second cell by establishing a second connection with the second cell using the selected beam.

Dynamic beam sweep procedure

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. An example method includes performing transmission or receive beam measurements at two or more wireless antennas of a wireless device, selecting a serving beam pair based at least in part on the transmission or receive beam measurements, and presenting an indication at the wireless device corresponding to the selected serving beam pair. The method may further include detecting user obstruction of part of the selected serving beam pair. The method may also include determining that a transmission power restriction applies to a first antenna associated with the selected transmission beam based at least in part on the transmission or receive beam measurements. Other example methods may further include detecting a change in an orientation of the wireless device and performing the transmission or receive beam measurements in response to detecting the change in the orientation of the wireless device.

Beam selection in handheld wireless communications devices

Aspects of the disclosure relate to minimizing the number of antenna array modules on a wireless communication device utilized in forming beam pair links (BPLs) based on beam measurements obtained on each of a plurality of receive beams for each of a plurality of transmit beams. For at least one BPL, the wireless communication device selects a different receive beam that results in at least one fewer active antenna array module. In some examples, the different receive beam selected for a BPL has a beam measurement value within a predefined variance from a beam measurement value of an original receive beam for the BPL. In addition, the wireless communication device can confirm that the beam measurement values of both the original and different receive beams satisfy a minimum beam measurement value before switching the BPL to the different receive beam. Other aspects, features, and embodiments are also claimed and described.
