An opening portion (2) is formed on an instrumental panel (1). A plurality of units (U1-U3) and a panel body (P) corresponding to the units are arranged. The units (U1-U3) have neither an input portion such as switches operated by the passenger nor an output portion such as a display for the passenger, and switch groups (7, 8) and a display (5) are mounted on the panel body (P). The units (U1-U3) and panel body (P) are coupled and connected to each other in advance to obtain an electronic equipment assembly. Of this assembly, the units (U1-U3) are stored in the instrumental panel (1) via the opening portion (2), and the opening portion (2) is covered by the panel body (P), so that the panel body (P) constitutes a portion of the wall surface in the passenger room.

A vehicle control system having plurality of control units, as well as sensors and actuators having a comparatively high degree of importance in terms of control by these control units, which are separately connected to first and second transmission lines. Sensors and actuators having a comparatively low degree of importance are assigned to the second transmission line. The outputs from the comparatively important sensors enter the respective control units directly via the first transmission line. A back-up program for backing up one control unit in case of failure is stored beforehand in another control unit. If the control unit fails, the other control unit performs back-up control to take over its tasks.

The slippage preventing apparatus is designed to control a degree of slippage of the driven wheel of a vehicle so as not to become too large. The automatic drive control device is adapted to increase or decrease an output of the engine so as to allow a vehicle speed to reach a given value. The slippage preventing apparatus controls operation of the automatic drive control device when a degree of slippage of the driven wheel is controlled by means of the slippage preventing apparatus. Operation of the automatic drive control device is controlled by thoroughly suspending operation of the automatic drive control device or solely suspending its operation so as to increase the output of the engine.

An engine control apparatus executes feedback control on the basis of throttle valve position data in order to electronically drive a throttle valve in accordance with an operation of an accelerator pedal. The throttle valve is connected to a motor through a wire. The control apparatus calculates a signal for the feedback control so as to suppress resonance of the throttle valve caused by connection through the wire.

First, second and third levers are disposed pivotably and rotatably relative to each other about a predetermined axis. The first lever is operated in association with an accelerator to be rotated in a predetermined one direction in accordance with operation in a direction of opening the accelerator. The second lever is operated in association with a throttle valve so as to open the throttle valve when the second levler is pivotted in the predetermined one direction and it is urged by a first urging member in a direction of closing the throttle valve. The first lever is provided with a first stopper section and the second lever is provided with a second stopper section as to be abuttable with the first stopper section from the predetermined one direction. The first stopper section is urged in such a manner as being brought into abut with the second stopper section by means of a second urging member larger in an urging force than the first urging member. The second lever is forcibly pivotted in the same direction as the third lever in resistance to the second urging member when the third lever is pivotted in a direction opposite to the predetermined one direction by a motor.

Throttle valve control apparatus for a vehicle

A vehicle constant speed control system including a vehicle speed detector and a controller for controlling the engine throttle valve so that the engine output is controlled to make the vehicle speed approach a target speed. The controller compares the actual vehicle speed with the target speed and calculates a required driving torque for driving the vehicle at the target speed and a target throttle valve position which is required for producing the required driving torque. The controller then produces a driving signal to actuate the engine throttle valve so that the required driving torque is produced and the target speed is attained.

Engine throttle valve control device having a step motor to operate a throttle valve which comprises detecting means for detecting the need for changing the rotational direction of the step motor, and delaying means which delays the supply of the drive signal to the step motor for a predetermined period when the need for changing the rotational direction of the step motor is detected by the detecting means. In the present invention, when it is necessary to change the rotational direction of the step motor, the step motor is not immediately driven to reverse the rotational direction but is halted for a predetermined short time. After the short time passes the step motor is driven to rotate in the opposite direction. According to the present invention, the inertial force acting on the step motor when it changes its rotational direction can be avoided or decreased. Hence, loss of control of the step motor due to the inertial force is avoided, and accurate control of the throttle valve opening is performed.
