Modified asphalts and methods for producing the same are disclosed. The modified asphalts can include asphalt having a T5 boiling point of 400&#xb0; C. or more, an olefin compound, and an acid promoter. The modified asphalt can include at least a portion of the olefin compound chemically grafted to at least a portion of the asphalt. The method can include exposing the asphalt, olefin compound, and acid promoter to a temperature of about 160&#xb0; C. or more.

Modified asphalts and methods for producing the same

Methods are provided for predicting the properties of an asphalt emulsion, such as an asphalt emulsion that contains an asphalt fraction derived from a plurality of crude oils. Corresponding tools are provided to allow for visualization of the predicted asphalt emulsion properties. The properties of the asphalt components in an asphalt fraction for forming an emulsion can be represented based on using a simplified functional form to represent each emulsion property of each asphalt component. The emulsion properties of an asphalt fraction, composed of a plurality of asphalt components, can be modeled based on a linear combination of the emulsion properties of the asphalt components.

Asphalt emulsion formulation tool

A bitumen emulsion comprising bituminous binder, emulsifier, and water. The bituminous binder comprises bitumen and an oxidised wax, and optionally one or more polymers. The incorporation of the oxidised wax into the bituminous binder provides modified bitumen with both a high softening point and a low enough viscosity to allow it to be emulsified. The emulsion may be used as a tack coat in applying a waterproofing layer to a roof base. The emulsion may be made using a static mixing emulsion process.
