Disclosed is a lubricant composition including: at least one base oil; at least one polyalkylene glycol with at least 50% by weight of butylene oxide units and having a kinematic viscosity, measured at 100&#xb0; C. according to standard ASTM D445 (2015), which is greater than or equal to 50 mm2/s, a kinematic viscosity, measured at 40&#xb0; C. according to standard ASTM D445 (2015), which is greater than or equal to 1000 mm2/s and a Viscosity Index, measured according to standard ASTM D2270 (2012), which is greater than or equal to 180. Also disclosed is the use of such a composition for transmission or gear lubrication.

An industrial base oil formulation comprising a base oil, preferably a hydrocarbon base oil, having a kinematic viscosity of more than 100 centiStokes, preferably 150 centiStokes or more, at 40 degrees Celsius and an AC-OSP where the AC-OSP has the structure of Formula I: R[O(RO)(RO)R](I) where Ris an alkyl having from one to thirty carbons, Rand Rare independently selected from alkyl groups having three or four carbons and can be in block form or randomly combined, Ris an alkyl having from one to 18 carbon atoms, n and m are independently numbers ranging from zero to 20 provided that n+m is greater than zero and p is a number within a range of one to three; wherein the industrial base oil formulation has a kinematic viscosity of greater than 100 centiStokes, preferably 150 centiStokes or more, at 40 degrees Celsius is useful in a lubricant for mechanical devices.

Alkyl capped oil soluble polymer viscosity index improving additives for base oils in automotive applications

The present disclosure relates to lubricant compositions for an engine, including at least one base oil, at least one polymer for improving the viscosity index, at least one organomolybdenum compound, and at least one polyalkylene glycol, obtained by polymerizing or copolymerizing alkylene oxides including from 3 to 8 carbon atoms, at least of which is butylene oxide, the polyalkylene glycol content being from 1 to 28% by weight relative to the total weight of lubricant composition. The use of at least one polyalkylene glycol, obtained by polymerizing or copolymerizing alkylene oxides including 3 to 8 carbon atoms, at least one of which is butylene oxide, in a base oil enables a reduction in the wear of the connecting-rod bearings of the thermal internal combustion engines of vehicles with hybrid and/or micro-hybrid engines.

Lubricant composition for an engine

Disclosed are lubricating compositions and base oils for motor vehicles, specifically for engines, gearboxes, or vehicle axle assemblies. The lubricating composition contains an oil-soluble polymer that is a specific polyalkyl glycol or a specific polyalkylene glycol (PAG). Also described is use of the lubricating composition for reducing fuel consumption in a vehicle provided with an engine, an axle assembly, or a gearbox that are lubricated using the lubricating composition or the specific PAG.

Lubricating compositions for motor vehicles

A capped oil soluble polyalkylene glycol has the following structure: RO-(AO)&#x2014;Rwhere: Ris a linear or branched alkyl or aryl with one to 18 carbon atoms; AO refers to residuals of monomers selected from 1,2-butylene oxide and 1,2-propylene oxide selected so that at least 50 weight-percent of the (AO)component is 1,2-butylene oxide residuals; n is selected to provide a kinematic viscosity at 100 degrees Celsius of less than 5 centiStokes for the non-capped polyalkylene glycol; and Ris a linear or branched alkyl or aryl having from 1-8 carbon atoms and wherein the capped oil soluble polyalkylene glycol is characterized by having a kinematic viscosity of less than 4.5 centiStokes at 100 degrees Celsius and a viscosity index of greater than 150.

Capped oil soluble polyalkylene glycols with low viscosity and high viscosity index

The present disclosure concerns engine lubricant compositions including at least one base oil, at least one viscosity index improver polymer and at least one polyalkylene glycol, obtained by polymerization or copolymerization of alkylene oxides comprising from 3 to 8 carbon atoms, including at least one butylene oxide, the quantity of polyalkylene glycol being from 1 to 28% by mass with respect to the total mass of lubricant composition. Using at least one polyalkylene glycol, obtained by polymerization or copolymerization of alkylene oxides including from 3 to 8 carbon atoms, further including at least one butylene oxide in a base oil improves engine cleanliness while not increasing, or indeed while decreasing, the consumption of petrol or diesel fuels by the engine.

Engine lubricant composition

A lubricant composition comprising (a) from 0.1 to 10 percent by weight of one or more polyalkylene glycols (PAG); and (2) one or more ester base oils selected from the group of natural esters, synthetic esters and combinations thereof; wherein the one or more PAG has a molecular weight in the range 1500 to 5000 g/mole, comprises from 10 to 40 percent by weight of units derived from ethylene oxide and from 90 to 60 percent by weight of units derived from propylene oxide; and wherein the one or more PAGs are in the form of block copolymer, reverse block copolymer or combinations thereof is provided. Also provided is a method of enhancing the hydrolytic stability of an ester base oil.

Natural and synthetic ester-containing lubricants having enhanced hydrolytic stability

Lubricant compositions include: (a) one or more polyalkylene glycol base oils obtained by polymerization or copolymerization of alkylene oxides comprising from 3 to 8 carbon atoms, include at least one butylene oxide and (b) at least one detergent chosen from salicylates or phenates. The present disclosure also relates to: 1) use of a lubricant composition as engine oil, preferably as oil for the engines of petrol or diesel motor vehicles; 2) use of a group of additives for an engine lubricant comprising polyalkylene glycol bases obtained by polymerization or copolymerization of alkylene oxides comprising from 3 to 8 carbon atoms; and 3) use of at least one additive chosen from salicylates, phenates, dithiocarbamates, amine-based or phenol-based antioxidants, preferably from salicylates or phenates, for reducing the Noack volatility of the base oils of polyalkylene glycol type, obtained from alkylene oxides comprising from 3 to 8 carbon atoms.

Certain polyalkylene glycols, useful as lubricant additives, are soluble with all four types of hydrocarbon base oils (Groups I-IV) at a wide variety of ratios of oil to polyalkylene glycol and under a variety of conditions. These polyalkylene glycols are prepared by reacting a C8-C20 alcohol and a mixed butylene oxide/propylene oxide feed, wherein the ratio of butylene oxide to propylene oxide ranges from 3:1 to 1:1. The invention provides a means of providing desirable lubricant compositions which may pose fewer environmental problems.

Polyakylene glycols useful as lubricant additives for groups I-IV hydrocarbon oils

A lubricant or process fluid composition having excellent low temperature properties comprises a capped estolide ester, a polyalphaolefin, a synthetic ester and/or polyalkylene glycol, and a pour point depressant. The combination of the three base oils plus the pour point depressant produces a synergistic composition that may have a pour point less than &#x2212;15&#xb0; C., preferably less than &#x2212;35&#xb0; C., while also having more than 50 percent by weight renewable carbons and being economical and effective in a wide variety of applications.
