A software cryptography library management program allows a user to provide a software cryptography library via a graphical user interface. A cryptography toolbox program displays to the user a plurality of cryptographic operation modules in a cryptography toolbox view such that each of the cryptographic operation modules is a graphical shape representation of an operation that performs one or more of application programming interfaces from the provided software cryptography library. A cryptography design program allows the user to place cryptographic operation modules in a drawing area to form a cryptosystem. The user sends a command to a simulation engine to simulate the cryptosystem using the application programming interfaces. The user may send a different command to a code generation engine to generate code from the cryptosystem using the application programming interfaces.

A method for authenticating a piece of firmware to be downloaded to a controller. The method includes signing the firmware or a first part of the firmware with a first private key at a first trusted source and signing the firmware or a second part of the firmware with a second private key at a second trusted source. The method also includes validating the signed firmware or the first part of the firmware using a first public key at the controller and validating the firmware or the second part of the firmware using a second public key at the controller. The method further includes authenticating the firmware if the firmware or the first part of the firmware is validated by the first public key at the controller and the firmware or the second part of the firmware is validated by the second public key at the controller.

Method and apparatus for secure firmware download using diagnostic link connector (DLC) and OnStar system

A method for establishing secure wireless communications between a mobile device and a vehicle, where a user is not required to enter a password, but instead the telematics system is used to bootstrap the trust between the mobile device and the vehicle. The user initiates the process by pressing a button on the mobile device to request pairing. The vehicle uses its secure OnStar cellular communication link to verify the mobile device with the OnStar server, which generates and sends a session key to the vehicle via the vehicle-OnStar cellular connection, and also sends the session key to the mobile device via the device's own cellular connection. The session key serves as a shared secret, such that the vehicle can issue a secrecy challenge to the mobile device. When the mobile device responds appropriately, a trusted wireless communications link can be established between the mobile device and the vehicle.
