A user equipment comprises a transmitter and an adaptive modulation and coding controller. The transmitter is configured to transmit data over an air interface in a single transmission time interval with a first specified modulation and coding scheme, where the single transmission time interval has a plurality of transport block sets. In response to receiving a repeat request for retransmission of at least one particular transport block set, the transmitter retransmits the at least one of the particular transport block sets. The adaptive modulation and coding controller is configured to change the specified modulation and coding scheme to a second specified modulation and coding scheme, enabling a combining of a particular transport block set transmitted at the first specified modulation and coding scheme with a retransmitted version of the particular transport block set transmitted at the second specified modulation and coding scheme.

User equipment using hybrid automatic repeat request

A method and apparatus is disclosed in which a user equipment (UE) receives and processes control information received on a first channel. In accordance with a particular embodiment, a use equipment (UI) having a user equipment processor coupled with user equipment circuitry includes means for receiving, via the user equipment circuitry, a wireless signal of a control channel; in which the wireless signal includes both (i) an N bit field and (ii) control information, the N bit field having been generated using the control information and having therein an N bit cyclic redundancy check (CRC) calculated using at least an N bit user equipment identity for the UE; and in which the UE further includes means for determining, via the user equipment circuitry, that the N bit CRC is correct using the N bit user equipment identity; and means for processing, via the user equipment circuitry, the control information upon the user equipment circuitry determining that the N bit CRC is correct.

Method and apparatus for processing a downlink shared channel

A base station for use in a code division multiple access communication system comprises circuitry configured to process a user equipment identification (UE ID) by 1/2 rate convolutionally encoding the UE ID to produce a sequence. The sequence is used by the base station for scrambling a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH). The base station is configured to transmit a wireless signal. The wireless signal provides the user equipment with payload data carried on a high speed physical downlink shared channel (HS-PDSCH). The HS-PDSCH is associated with the HS-SCCH.

User equipment identification specific scrambling

A medium access control-high speed (MAC-hs) comprises a hybrid automatic repeat request (H-ARQ) device configured to receive data blocks over a wideband-code division multiple access (W-CDMA) high speed-downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH). The H-ARQ device generates an acknowledgement (ACK) or negative acknowledgement (NACK) for each said data block received. Each received data block having a transmission sequence number. The H-ARQ device receives a new transmission instead of a pending retransmission at any time. At least one reordering device has an input configured to receive an output of the H-ARQ device and the at least one reordering device configured to reorder the received data blocks based on each received data block's transmission sequence number (TSN). Received data blocks are immediately forwarded for processing for higher layers when the received data blocks are received in sequence.

MAC architecture in wireless communication systems supporting H-ARQ

Embodiments include a method and apparatus for processing a downlink shared channel. In one embodiment, a Node-B includes circuitry configured to process control information for a user equipment (UE) and to produce an N bit cyclic redundancy check (CRC) associated with the control information. The Node-B includes circuitry configured to modulo 2 add the N bit CRC with an N bit UE identity to produce an N bit field, wherein the UE identity is any one of a plurality of UE identities associated with the UE. The Node-B includes circuitry configured to transmit a wireless signal of a control channel, wherein the wireless signal comprises the N bit field and the control information.

A method and apparatus is disclosed wherein a user equipment (UE) receives control information on a first channel and uses the control information to process a second channel.

Data of a transport block set is to be transmitted in a wireless communication system. The wireless communication system uses adaptive modulation and coding and has a physical layer hybrid automatic repeat request mechanism. Segmentation information for potential segmentation of the transport block set is provided. The transport block set is transmitted with a first specified modulation and coding scheme. The transport bock set is received and whether the received transport block set is determined to meet a specified quality. When the specified quality is not met, a repeat request is transmitted. The first specified modulation and coding set is changed to a second specified modulation and coding set. In response to the repeat request, the transmit block set is segmented into a plurality of segments supported by the second specified modulation and coding set in accordance with the provided segmentation information. The segments are transmitted and at least two of the segments are transmitted separately. The transmitted segments are received. The segmentation process may be applied more than once for a particular TBS transmission.

Transport block set segmentation

A criterion for biasing a binary decision requiring an unequal protection which utilizes a measured signal to interference ratio (SIR). The SIR may be derived from a determination of channel estimation. The SIR is compared against a threshold, the threshold being selected to bias the decision toward a not acknowledge (NACK) as opposed to an acknowledge (ACK) determination. The technique is advantageous for providing biased binary decisions for high speed downlink packets (HSDP) but may be utilized for both uplink and downlink applications.
