A method and apparatus for activating a trigger mechanism at a data capture device having a touch display, and a data capture module is provided. In operation, a first region associated with a first application and an input region is provided on the touch display. An input is received at the device, including at least a touch sensor input from the touch display. Based on the input, an obtained input pattern may be identified. The identified input pattern may include at least one of a spatial pattern, a temporal pattern, a touch size and a hard-tap. When the identifying is successful, either an input may be provided to the first application or the trigger mechanism may be activated to initiate a data capture at the data capture module. Alternatively, when the identifying is successful, an operation associated with the first application may be performed or a mode of operation of the data capture device may be changed to a second mode.

Apparatus and method for activating a trigger mechanism

A method for restricting, based on predefined user profile information, access to software executing on a computing device of a user. The method comprises the following steps. Input data is intercepted from a user input device. The input data is compared with a list of restrictions in the user profile information to determining if an action associated with the input data is prohibited. The input data is passed to the software for execution only if the action associated with the input data is not prohibited. A method for restricting, based on predefined user profile information, access to notifications generated for a user is also provided.

An initial capacity and a remaining capacity of the rechargeable battery are obtained. The battery degradation is determined as a proportion of a difference between the initial capacity and the remaining capacity to the initial capacity. The battery degradation is visually displayed on a display of the electronic device as a battery gauge. A system to implement the method is also provided.

A method and system for managing power of a portable device is disclosed. The portable devices has a plurality device components that has controllable power settings. The device has a plurality of power profiles, each power profile referencing a list of the available device components that are configured for adequate power needs. Set of rules are then defined having a criterion for executing the plurality of power profiles, where the criterion is based on a device input. Once the rules and power profiles are created, the device inputs are monitored to determine if there is a match. If the criteria in the rules are matched, the corresponding power profile is executed to maximize battery life.

The method comprises the steps of scanning the system file structure, determining port assignments for active devices from a known location in the system file structure, scanning additional locations in the system file structure, determining port assignments for dynamic devices from the additional locations in the system file structure, and displaying the active devices, dynamic devices and the corresponding determined port assignments. The system comprises a memory for storing instructions, and a processor for executing the instructions stored in the memory. The executed instructions generate a system file structure scanner component for scanning the system file structure and generating device data based on the scanned system file structure, a device data structure for storing the device data received from the computer system file structure scanner component, and a port assigner component for assigning communication ports based on the device data structure.
