A method, a device, and a non-transitory storage medium having instructions to store cell reselection parameters; select a first set of at least one of candidate frequency bands or candidate frequencies based on a first parameter of the cell reselection parameters that indicates candidate frequency bands or candidate frequencies from which can be selected for cell reselection; perform inter-frequency measurement; count a number of inter-frequency measurements performed; determine whether a cell reselection criteria has been satisfied based on one or more signal threshold values; select a new cell in response to a determination that the cell reselection criteria has been met; and determine whether to select a second set of at least one of one or more candidate frequency bands or one or more candidate frequencies indicated by the first parameter in response to a determination that the cell reselection criteria has not been met.

Inter-frequency cell reselection

A system may include one or more sensor devices and a wireless communication device. The wireless communication device may be configured to receive an indication of a sensor event from a sensor device via an interface port; perform a table lookup in a configuration table based on the interface port; identify sensor data location in the sensor device based on the table lookup; read data at the identified sensor data location; encapsulate the read data into a data unit; and transmit the data unit over a wireless connection to a sensor management system.

Data-driven sensor configuration and information processing

A mobile architecture system includes a plurality of connection nodes each comprising an access interface and at least one network interface. A plurality of aggregation layer devices are each coupled to respective sets of connection nodes to form aggregation regions. A backhaul network is coupled to each of the aggregation layer devices, and a mobility entity is coupled to the backhaul network, wherein each of the connection nodes is configured to receive attachment requests from at least one user device. The aggregation layer devices are configured to assign IP addresses to user devices connected to connection nodes coupled to the respective aggregation layer devices. The aggregation layer devices are configured to determine IP routes from the backhaul network to the connection nodes based on the assigned IP addresses. The aggregation layer devices are further configured to notify respective connection nodes regarding the IP addresses assigned to connected user devices.

IP aggregation for LTE-based mobile networks

An approach for cloud provisioning of consumer services based on requested services. The approach uses customer request for services and current network utilization patterns to most efficiently and effectively provision network resources. For example, a network manager establishes one or more terms for a cloud provider based on one or more provider network provisions. The network manager further determines a customer profile subscription based on customer credentials, cloud provider credentials, and a combination thereof. Then, the network manager delivers one or more credentials based on the cloud provider, and generates a routing path to the cloud provider based on the subscription and/or service request.

Method and apparatus for cloud provisioning of communication services

A machine management system provides a system and method for communicating user data with a device connected to a network. The device may register for service by the network, causing the machine management system to establish a special communications path through the network when it is determined that the device is a machine device. Thereafter, user data transmitted by the machine device (or transmitted to the machine device) may be communicated using the special communications path. In certain embodiments, the special communications path may be established such that existing network elements are not involved in the transmission of communications with the machine devices, thereby minimizing the impact on implementing the system and method on existing network elements, alleviating the burden of serving these machine devices using existing network elements and permitting the implementation of device-specific services for machine devices.

Establishing network connectivity for transmitting network traffic to or from machine devices

An approach is provided for determining a cloud provider identifier associated with a request to provision one or more communication services. The approach further involves validating the request by matching the cloud provider identifier against another copy of the cloud provider identifier associated with a session over which the provisioning request was received.

Method and apparatus for dynamic provisioning of communication services

An approach and system for readying the device for use over a communication network is described. The system processes label information associated with a device unregistered for use by a user over a communication network of a service provider to determine a pairing identifier assigned by the service provider to a transmitter associated with the device. The system also determines a pairing connection is established between the device and the transmitter based on the pairing identifier. The system also determines the transmission of location information associated with the device, the transmitter, or a combination thereof over the pairing connection, over a high speed communication channel established with the service provider, or a combination thereof. The system further initiates a registration procedure of the device with the communication network based on the location information, registration information associated with the device, the transmitter, the user, or a combination thereof, or a combination thereof.

Method and system for configuring a device for use over a communication network

An approach is provided for steering network traffic (e.g., IP traffic) based on dynamic routing to a service node or a chain of service nodes that can provide in-line services. In an exemplary embodiment, traffic is steered from a first router to an in-line service router by tunneling through a second router, wherein in-line service router is configured to provide in-line services to the traffic.

Method and system for network traffic steering based on dynamic routing

A device may request location information for a location reference device (LRD); receive, based on the request, the location information for the LRD via a cellular network connection; transmit, via the cellular network, an instruction to direct the LRD to activate a non-cellular radio on the LRD; receive wireless signals outputted via the non-cellular radio; determine a distance between the user device and the LRD based on a strength of the wireless signals received by the user device; and audibly or visually indicate, by the user device, the determined distance between the user device and the LRD.

Reducing power consumption on location reference devices

A device may include a communication interface configured to receive programming information from a service provider multicast over multiple channels. The device may also include logic configured to decode the programming information received over the multiple channels, assemble a programming guide based on the decoded programming information and output the programming guide to an output device for display.

Data distribution

A collapsed or compact mobile architecture system includes connection nodes each comprising an access interface and at least one network interface; a backhaul network coupled to each of the connection nodes; and a mobility control unit coupled to the backhaul network. The mobility control unit comprises an Internet Protocol (IP) address server. Each of the connection nodes is configured to receive attachment requests from at least one user device. The mobility control unit is configured to receive first control plane signals from the connection nodes based on the attachment requests and transmit second control plane signals to the connection nodes based on the attachment requests. The mobility control unit is further configured to assign an IP address to each of the at least one user devices, based on the receive first control plane signals.

Collapsed mobile architecture

A method includes storing, at a first network device configured to communicate with at least one set top box (STB) and at least one digital video recorder (DVR), information identifying parameters associated with bandwidth in a home network. The method may also include receiving, at a first network device in the home network, a request having a corresponding first bandwidth and identifying a class of traffic associated with the request. The method may further include determining whether the first bandwidth is less than an available bandwidth associated with the identified class of traffic, approving the request when the first bandwidth is less than the available bandwidth, and modifying the available bandwidth associated with the identified class of traffic in response to approving the request.

A network device receives a label-switched-path (LSP) labeled data packet, maps the LSP labeled data packet to an input queue, maps a data packet in the input queue to an output queue based on a received LSP label value and a received exp label value, and transmits the LSP labeled data packet from the output queue.

Label and EXP field based MPLS network device

A device may assign a virtual local area network (VLAN) to one or more specific links in a link aggregation group (LAG), and send traffic from the VLAN on the assigned one or more specific LAG links. Traffic from the same VLAN may be sent on one link in the LAG by selecting a hashing criterion or by pinning the VLAN to a primary link in the LAG and another link for redundancy purposes.
