The disclosed embodiments describe techniques for allocating memory to functions processing big data. In one embodiment, a method is disclosed comprising allocating a first memory space to a function, the memory space comprising an initial amount of memory for the function; declaring the first memory space as the current memory space; processing data using the function, the processing writing data to the current memory space; determining that the function requires additional memory space; allocating a new memory space based on the current memory space and a growth factor; copying all data in the current memory space to the new memory space; declaring the current memory space as the old memory space; declaring the new memory space as the current memory space; and not deallocating the old memory space.

Systems and methods for memory management in big data applications

In one embodiment, the present invention provides a system and method for analyzing a stream of network data. The method includes generating a statistical model from a set of record events. A most recent record event is received. The statistical model is updated using the most recent record event by adding the most recent record event to the statistical model.

Network usage analysis system and method for updating statistical models

A usage analysis system and method for modeling subscriber usage is disclosed. The method includes defining a threshold value. An excess usage component is determined by summing all subscriber usage greater than the threshold value, and subtracting the product of a sum of all subscriber hits greater than the threshold value and the threshold value. The excess usage component is used to analyze subscriber usage.

Network usage analysis system and method for determining excess usage

A database indexing and rolling storage method for normalized event data. Indexing of the normalized event database meets the goals of a manageable storage database and fast accessibility. A log reference step is not required to locate information in the database because the indexing of the invention utilizes the time-stamp information in assigning the location for storage. There accordingly is no need for a separate look-up to associate a time stamped set of information, i.e., a table in a normalized event data database, because the indexing provides an unambiguous reference to a reusable storage location. Because the time-stamped indexing permits re-use of preplanned storage locations, the historical limits of the normalized event data may easily roll over. In other words, elimination of an oldest time period table of data while updating a new table of data is easily accounted for in the indexed database and storage method of the invention.
