A remapping function for providing remapped gray levels is determined based on the distribution of the gray levels such that a number of the remapped gray levels is less than a number of the gray levels. A shift register includes stages to generate gate signals in sequence. Each of the stages includes a first pull up drive control section, a pull up drive section and a pull down drive section. The first pull up drive control section outputs a control signal based on the gate signal of an adjacent stage. The pull up drive section receives a first clock signal and outputs the first clock signal as the gate signal to a corresponding gate line in response to the control signal. The pull down drive section inactivates the corresponding gate line in response to a second clock signal.

The storage signal applied to each pixel has a voltage level which changes after a charging of the data voltage into the liquid crystal capacitor and the storage capacitor.

Disclosed is a display device, including: a display substrate which comprises a gate line and a data line and a gate driving unit which is coupled to the gate line of the display substrate and outputs a gate signal. The gate driving unit is comprised of a shift register that includes a plurality of stages. At least one of the stages comprises a first drive controller that generates a first control signal by a carry signal applied from a previous stage, a second drive controller that generates a second control signal by a reset signal applied from a subsequent stage, a first drive unit that outputs the reset signal and the carry signal to the previous stage and the following stage, respectively by the first control signal and the second signal, and a second drive unit that outputs the gate signal to the gate line by the first control signal and the second signal.

The liquid crystal display includes a substrate; a thin film transistor array formed on the substrate; and a photoelectric conversion element having a reflection pattern formed on at least one side of the substrate, a photoelectric conversion region provided with a first semiconductor region formed on an upper part of the reflection pattern to receive an external light reflected by the reflection pattern, and a dummy pattern formed on an upper part of the photoelectric conversion region with a width corresponding to the first semiconductor region. The photoelectric conversion region may be configured to adjust the quantity of light incident to the thin film transistor array.

A shift register and a display device having the shift register are provided. The shift register has a plurality of stages which sequentially generate output signals in synchronization with a plurality of clock signals. Each of the stages includes an input unit for receiving a scan start signal or an output signal from a previous stage and outputting the scan start signal or the output signal as a first voltage, a first unit for passing at least two clock signals, a second unit for outputting at least one of the at least two clock signals or a second voltage in response to an output signal from a next stage, and an output unit for generating an output signal synchronized with at least one of the at least two clock signals in response to the outputs of the input unit and the second unit.
