Disclosed is a rechargeable lithium battery including a positive electrode including a positive active material; a negative electrode including a negative active material; an electrolyte solution including a lithium salt and a non-aqueous organic solvent; and a separator between the positive and the negative electrodes, the separator including a porous substrate and a coating layer positioned on at least one side of the porous substrate. The negative active material includes a Si-based material; the non-aqueous organic solvent includes cyclic carbonate including ethylene carbonate, propylene carbonate, or combinations thereof, the cyclic carbonate being included in an amount of about 20 volume % to about 60 volume % based on the total amount of the non-aqueous organic solvent; and the coating layer includes a fluorine-based polymer, an inorganic compound, or combinations thereof. The rechargeable lithium battery has improved cycle-life and high temperature storage characteristics.

Rechargeable lithium battery

A rechargeable battery is disclosed. In one embodiment, the battery includes: i) a first current collecting plate, ii) a plurality of electrode assemblies electrically connected in parallel with each other via the first current collecting plate, wherein each of the electrode assemblies comprises two opposing ends and an outer side formed between the two ends, and wherein the first current collecting plate is electrically connected to one of the two ends of the electrode assemblies and iii) a can configured to accommodate the first current collecting plate and the plurality of electrode assemblies, wherein the can comprises at least one non-linear portion, and wherein an inner surface of the non-linear portion faces the outer side of at least one electrode assembly.

Rechargeable battery

An electrode assembly for a battery. The electrode assembly includes a positive electrode with a positive electrode active material layer and a negative electrode with a negative electrode active material layer. The assembly further includes a separator that has a porous layer formed of a ceramic material and a binder and a polyolefin resin layer. The porous layer has a thickness of about 4 to 6 &#x3bc;m and the polyolefin resin layer has a thickness of about 12 to 16 &#x3bc;m.

Electrode assembly and secondary battery having the same

A rechargeable battery is disclosed. In one embodiment, the battery includes i) a current collecting plate, ii) a plurality of electrode assemblies electrically connected in parallel with each other via the current collecting plate, wherein each of the electrode assemblies comprises two opposing ends and an outer side formed between the two ends, and wherein the current collecting plate is electrically connected to one of the two ends of the electrode assemblies. The battery may further includes 1) a spacer and 2) a can configured to accommodate i) the current collecting plate, ii) the plurality of electrode assemblies and iii) the spacer, wherein the spacer is positioned i) between adjacent electrode assemblies and/or ii) between an inner surface of the can and at least one of the electrode assemblies, and wherein the spacer comprises at least one non-linear portion which contacts the outer side of at least one of the electrode assemblies.
