An opto-electronic connector module includes an optical waveguide portion including an optical waveguide in which an optical signal is transmitted, and a connector portion coupled to the optical waveguide portion, fixing the optical waveguide portion on a PCB on which a semiconductor chip portion having an opto-electronic device and a semiconductor chip is surface-mounted, and having a first coupling portion having a convex or concave structure formed in a lower portion thereof. The first coupling portion of the connector portion is coupled to a second coupling portion having a concave or convex structure formed on an upper surface of the PCB.

Provided is an optical wiring module. The optical wiring module includes a light source mounted on a surface of a substrate, a metal optical waveguide coupled to a transverse magnetic mode of light emitted from the light source and using a long-range surface palsmon polariton, and a photodetector. The optical wiring module has a simple structure enabling it to be further miniaturized and its yield to be increased.

Provided is an optical device having an optical waveguide including an organic Bragg grating sheet. The optical device includes a cladding layer, and an optical waveguide. The cladding layer is formed on a substrate, and the optical waveguide is formed within the cladding layer. The optical waveguide includes a core layer and an organic Bragg grating sheet located within the core layer. The organic Bragg grating sheet has a refractive index higher than that of the core layer to reflect or transmit light having a predetermined wavelength. Accordingly, light propagates through the optical waveguide with high reflectance and low loss. Besides, a high performance tunable wavelength filter or tunable dispersion compensator may be constructed by forming a thermal electrode on the optical waveguide, forming a tapered optical waveguide, or forming a chirped organic Bragg grating sheet in the middle of the core layer of the optical waveguide.

The present invention relates to a non-linear optical material having a dendrimer structure; and, more particularly, to a non-linear optical material having organic chromophores at the ends and formed based on ester linkages and/or ether linkages. Since the non-linear optical material of the present invention is formed based on ester linkages and/or ether linkages, it is very stable. Also, because it is a dendrimer structure, it has the properties of a polymer while having a strong connection ability at the ends, and this makes the non-linear optical material easily adopt organic chromophores easily. As it is stable thermally and optically, it can be applied to optical communication usefully.

Polymeric optical device having low polarization dependence and method of fabricating the same

The present invention relates to the polarization-independent optical polymeric intensity modulator independent of input signal using polymers with electro-optical property. To use the electro-optical property for electro-optical polymer, polymers must be poled by applying high voltage to the waveguide. The size of phase modulation caused by such an poling varies from the biggest value at polarization parallel to the poling to the smallest value at polarization perpendicular to the poling. Therefore, the performance of the electro-optical polymeric intensity modulator depends on the polarization state of input light. The present invention provides the polarization-independent optical polymeric intensity modulator capable of modulating the optical intensity without regard to the polarization of the input signal by making the polarizing directions of two optical paths of M-Z interferometer perpendicular each other.

The present invention makes light input/output portions being a coupling portion with an optical fiber and a Y-branch using a rib waveguide, and a bending portion using a channel waveguide, wherein the rib waveguide and the channel waveguide is connected by a tapered waveguide. So that the present invention can improve the crosstalk, loss and operating voltage characteristics.

Optical switching device and wavelength multiplexing device having planar waveguide-type structure

A method of fabricating a thermooptic tunable wavelength filter of optical communication systems using WDM is provided, which includes the steps of forming a polymer optical waveguide on a semiconductor substrate using a polymer material, forming a polymer Bragg grating on the optical waveguide using O,RIE and polymer spin coating, and forming a thermooptic tuning electrode over the polymer optical waveguide in which the Bragg grating is integrated. This provides the thermooptical tunable wavelength filter which has very narrow wavelength band width of transmission signal, low crosstalk with optical signals adjacent thereto, stable wavelength tuning characteristic using thermooptic effect and wide tuning ranges. Furthermore, the optical devices using the polymer optical waveguide can be fabricated with low cost. Thus, they have advantages in terms of economy and marketability.

Method of fabricating thermooptic tunable wavelength filter

An optical switch having reduced processing errors in a coupling region, according to the claimed invention includes an input portion having a pair of optical waveguides; an output portion having a pair of optical waveguides; a light phase shifting portion for inducing an additional phase change on light travelling in the input portion; a first light coupling waveguide for coupling between two light signals of the input portion and for providing a coupled signal with the light phase shifting portion; and a second light coupling waveguide for coupled between two light signals of the light phase shifting means and for providing a coupled signal with the output portion. The light coupling unit includes a waveguide. The switch reduces considerably any error that stems from manufacturing variations between waveguides in a coupling region since the waveguides share the error produced in a coupling region. The length of the switching element can be reduced since the coupled between waveguides is not indirect as in DC switches and BB switches. Due to the reduction in length, the output loss is reduced considerable.
