Provided is a recording medium suitable for use in magnetic transfer of a servo pattern onto a magnetic recording medium. The recording medium includes a substrate including a plurality of servo regions and a plurality of data regions, and a magnetic layer formed on each of the servo regions and patterned in the shape of a servo pattern to be patterned on a magnetic recording medium, wherein the servo regions protrude relative to the data regions.

Recording device

Image sensors include three-dimensional (3D) color image sensors having an array of sensor pixels therein. A 3-D color image sensor may include a 3-D image sensor pixel having a plurality of color sensors and a depth sensor therein. The plurality of color sensors may include red, green and blue sensors extending adjacent the depth sensor. A rejection filter is also provided. This rejection filter, which extends opposite a light receiving surface of the 3-D image sensor pixel, is configured to be selectively transparent to visible and near-infrared light relative to far-infrared light. The depth sensor may also include an infrared filter that is selectively transparent to near-infrared light having wavelengths greater than about 700 nm relative to visible light.

Three-dimensional image sensors and methods of manufacturing the same

A magnetic recording medium and a method of manufacturing the magnetic recording medium are provided. In order to increase the recording density of the magnetic recording medium, the magnetic recording medium is configured to multiple magnetic layers by consecutively forming a first magnetic layer having a thin film shape and a second magnetic layer comprising patterned magnetic bits. The first magnetic layer has a magnetic anisotropic coefficient greater than that of the second magnetic layer.

Magnetic recording media and method of fabricating the same

Provided are a master recording medium and a method of manufacturing the master recording medium. The master recording medium includes: a plate; and a magnetic layer which is formed on the plate for magnetically transferring of a servo pattern that is to be formed on a magnetic recording medium. The method of manufacturing a master recording medium includes: engraving a polymer layer by nano imprinting to form an engraved pattern corresponding to a servo pattern to be formed on a magnetic recording medium; forming a magnetic layer which fills in the engraved pattern of the polymer layer; forming a back plate layer on the magnetic layer; and performing processing to expose the servo pattern on a surface of the magnetic layer that is opposite a surface of the magnetic layer on which the back plate layer is formed.

Master recording medium for magnetically transferring servo pattern to the magnetic recording medium and method of manufacturing the same

A heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) head and manufacturing method are provided. The HAMR head is mounted on a slider having an air-bearing surface (ABS) and includes a substrate; a recording unit formed on the substrate and having a stepped end; a waveguide located in a space formed by the stepped end; and a near field light emission (NFE) pole located adjacent to the recording unit and having an end located on a same plane as the ABS. The method includes forming a cladding layer on a substrate; forming a first metal layer on the cladding layer; etching a part of the first metal layer; forming a core layer on the etched region; forming a refraction part in a part of the core layer; forming a second metal layer the first metal layer and the core layer; and forming a recording unit on the second metal layer.

Heat assisted magnetic recording head and method of manufacturing the same

A method of nano-patterning, a method of manufacturing a nano-imprinting master and a discrete track magnetic recording medium are all provided. The method of nano-patterning includes (a) sequentially forming on a substrate an etching object material layer, a photoresist layer, and a metal layer patterned to a first pattern having a structure in which line patterns are repeatedly arranged with a predetermined interval; (b) irradiating light onto a surface of the metal layer to excite surface plasmon so that the photoresist layer is exposed to a second pattern by the surface plasmon; (c) removing the metal layer and developing the photoresist layer; and (d) etching the etching object material layer using the photoresist layer patterned to the second pattern as a mask.

Method of nano-patterning using surface plasmon effect and method of manufacturing nano-imprint master and discrete track magnetic recording media using the nano-patterning method

A near field light generating device generating near field light from incident light by using a solid immersion mirror and a heat assisted magnetic recording head with the same are provided. The near field light generating device includes a light source; a waveguide core which transmits light; and a solid immersion mirror, which generates near field light, including an upper transmission surface through which light from the waveguide core is transmitted into the solid immersion mirror, a lower reflection surface, opposite the upper transmission surface, which reflections light incident thereon, lateral reflection surfaces, facing each other at sides of the solid immersion mirror, which reflect light incident thereon, and a lower transmission region disposed at a center of the lower reflection surface. Light reflected from the lateral reflection surfaces forms a light spot on the lower transmission region.

Near field light generating device and heat assisted magnetic recording head with the same

A heat-assisted magnetic recording head (HAMR) head includes a magnetic recording head including a recording pole for applying a magnetic recording field on a magnetic recording medium and a return pole magnetically connected to the recording pole to form a magnetic path, a light source for emitting light, and an optical transmission module including an photonic crystal waveguide disposed at a side of the magnetic recording head to guide light incident from the light source and a nano aperture for enhancing an optical field by varying an intensity distribution of the light guided through the photonic crystal waveguide.

Heat-assisted magnetic recording head and method of manufacturing the same

A light delivery module, a method of fabricating the same, a heat-assisted magnetic recording head using the light delivery module are provided. The light delivery module delivers light emitted from a light source. The light delivery module includes an optical waveguide having an inclined plane of an angle &#x3a6; with respect to an incident light axis to deliver an incident light, and a nano aperture changing an energy distribution of the light delivered through the inclined plane to generate an enhanced near-field. The heat-assisted magnetic recording head is mounted on one end of a slider with an air bearing surface to perform a recording operation on a recording medium. The heat-assisted magnetic recording head includes a magnetic path forming unit forming a magnetic field for recording, a light source emitting light for heating a predetermined region of a recording surface of the recording medium, and the light delivery module.

Light delivery module, method of fabricating the same and heat-assisted magnetic recording head using the light delivery module

An optical pickup and an optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus using the optical pickup are provided. The optical pickup includes: a light source; an optical bench on which the light source is mounted; a focusing member including an objective lens, focusing light emitted from the light source to form a light spot on an optical information storage medium; and an optical path forming member having a transparent block that includes a light entrance/exit surface on which the optical bench and the focusing member are arranged, a first reflection surface, and a second reflection surface opposing the first reflection surface, where the optical path forming member directs the light emitted from the light source toward the objective lens by reflecting the light emitted from the light source on the first and second reflection surfaces. The optical pickup satisfies the requirement for smaller, slimmer design and can be integrated using semiconductor manufacturing processes.

Integrated optical pickup and optical recording and/or reproducing apparatus using the same

An integrated optical head is provided. In the integrated optical head, a light source emits light. A waveguide guides the light. An input coupler is located at one edge of the waveguide, and couples light emitted from the light source and transmits the coupled light to the waveguide. An output coupler is located at another edge of the waveguide, and couples light emitted from the waveguide and focuses the coupled light on an optical disc. A light path changing unit is installed on the waveguide, and changes the light path of light that has been reflected by the optical disc and then passed through the output coupler. An optical detector receives the light passed through the light path changing unit and converts the received light into an electrical signal in order to detect information from the optical disc. Accordingly, an input coupling efficiency and an output coupling efficiency are improved, such that light loss is reduced. Thus, recording and reproduction of an optical head can be improved, and a light, compact, integrated optical head can be obtained.

Micro-lens array and manufacturing method thereof

A hybrid achromatic optical lens having a high numerical aperture whose chromatic aberration is removed and a method for manufacturing the same are provided. The hybrid achromatic optical lens includes a first optical member of a low index of refraction and a second optical member of a high index of refraction. The second optical member is formed on a depressed portion of the first optical member and has a diffractive surface, which is a contact surface of the second optical member with the first optical member and has a plurality of pitches formed on a refractive surface. The method for manufacturing the hybrid achromatic optical lens includes forming a profile of a diffractive surface having a plurality of pitches on a molding die whose one surface is the same as a profile of a refractive surface, forming a depression having the diffractive surface on a first optical member having a low index of refraction using the molding die, and coating a material having a high index of refraction on the depression, grinding a surface of material, and forming a second optical member having a high index of refraction.

An integrated optical pickup and a manufacturing method thereof, and an optical information storage system including the pickup. The integrated optical pickup includes a light source; a main photo-detector, which receives light emitted from the light source and reflected from an optical information storage medium; a light-collecting and optical path separating member, which focuses light emitted from the light source on the optical information storage medium and separates an optical path of light incident on the optical information storage medium from an optical path of light reflected from the optical information storage medium; and an optical bench, which is coupled to the light-collecting and optical path separating member, an optical path being formed between the light source and the main photo-detector, and the light-collecting and optical path separating member, and the optical bench and the light-collecting and optical path separating member being respectively formed on a wafer and then obtained by being separated into a plurality of assemblies.
