An organic device including at least two electrodes; at least one organic active layer, wherein the organic active layer is disposed in between two electrodes; and an electrode modification layer, wherein the electrode modification layer is disposed in between two electrodes and in contact with one of the electrodes; and the electrode modification layer includes a fluorocarbon compound selected from the materials having a chemical structure of (CF), wherein the 'x', 'y', and &#x201c;n&#x201d; are integers, and wherein 1&#x3c;x&#x2266;70, 1&#x3c;y&#x2266;50, and n&#x2267;1.

A method for forming a color organic light-emitting device including depositing a first electrode over a substrate; depositing a first emissive layer over the first electrode for producing a first colored light in response to hole-electron recombination; and selectively patternwise depositing a hole-blocking layer over the first emissive layer. The method also includes depositing a second emissive layer over the hole-blocking layer which in response to hole-electron recombination emits colored light different from the colored light emitted from the first emissive layer; depositing a second electrode over the second emissive layer; and whereby the patternwise deposition of the hole-blocking layer has been selected to substantially shift hole-electron recombination from the second to the first emissive layers.

A donor element adapted for use in making an OLED device including a donor support element; a light-absorbing layer disposed over the donor support element, which in response to light, produces heat; a host material layer disposed over the light-absorbing layer; and a dopant layer disposed over the host material layer such that when the donor element is placed in a transfer relationship with the OLED device and when light is absorbed by the light-absorbing layer, heat is produced that causes the vaporization transfer of host materials and dopant materials from the light-absorbing layer to cause at least partial mixing in the OLED device.

A donor element adapted for use in making an OLED device, includes a donor support substrate; a light-absorbing layer disposed over the substrate which, in response to light, produces heat; an emissive layer disposed over the light-absorbing layer; and a hole-transporting layer disposed over the emissive layer such that when the donor element is positioned in a transfer relationship with the OLED device and when light is absorbed by the light-absorbing layer, heat is produced that causes the vaporization transfer across a gap, of hole-transporting materials and emissive materials to the OLED device.

A method for making an organic electroluminescent display device having an array of pixels disposed on a display substrate includes providing a donor element and a display substrate that are heated to a desired temperature. Radiation-induced thermal transfer is then used to transfer organic material from the donor element to the display substrate.

An image display device includes a substrate; a sparse array of light emitting elements formed on one side of the transparent substrate, the light emitting element being selectively addressable to form an image; an array of lens-lets located on the opposite side of the substrate, the focal plane of the lens-lets being at the one side of the substrate and the lens-lets being arranged with respect to the light emitting elements such that the light emitted by the light emitting elements is directed by the respective lens-lets to intersect at a common region associated with a predetermined viewing distance; and the sparseness of the array of the light emitting elements being such that the ratio of the light emitting area of the light-emitting element under a lens-let to the total area of the lens-let is less than or equal to 0.25.

An in-situ method for fabricating, at least in part, an OLED device that is moisture- or oxygen-sensitive, such method comprising the steps of: providing into a controlled atmosphere coater a receiver element which will form part of the OLED device; providing into the controlled atmosphere coater a donor support element and coating such donor support element to produce a donor element with one or more layers required to produce all or part of the OLED device; controlling the atmosphere in the controlled atmosphere coater under controlled conditions; positioning the coated side of the donor element in material transferring relationship to the receiver element to be coated; and applying radiation to the donor element to selectively transfer one or more layers from the donor element to the receiver element.

In-situ method for making OLED devices that are moisture or oxygen-sensitive

An organic electroluminescent display device that displays a preformed image includes spaced anode and cathode electrodes, organic electrically conductive hole transport layer and electron transport layer disposed between the anode and cathode electrodes, and a preformed image layer formed between the organic electrically conductive hole transport layer and electron transport layers such layer having a region that is preformed to have at least one preformed image such that when a voltage is applied across the anode and cathode electrodes which will cause a preformed image to be displayed. Voltages are applied across the anode and cathode electrodes of the organic electroluminescent display device causes the emission of light for viewing the preformed image.
