A multi-mode electrostatographic printing machine. A first latent image is recorded on a photoconductive member. The first latent image is transferred to a dielectric sheet. Subsequent to this transfer, the sheet is moved to a position where a second image is formed on the dielectric sheet by a stylus array having a plurality of individually actuatable stylii. Operator controls allow either of or both the latent images to be formed on the dielectric sheet. The multi-mode of operation can be extended to include a third image forming device for causing a third latent image to be recorded on the photoconductive member and subsequently transferred to the dielectric sheet. The operator controls are similarly extended to allow any combination of the three images to be formed on the dielectric sheet.

A toner and imaging system wherein the utilized toner is composed of a permanent colorant of the final color desired and additionally contains heat sensitive dye that darkens the color of the toner so that it more efficiently absorbs heat during flash fusing but then decomposes, becoming colorless, to leave an image the color of the permanent colorant.

A method of image reproduction is disclosed wherein an image is reproduced by selectively activating a surface of an image transfer body to form a tackified image configuration on the surface and contacting the surface with a transfer developer material which adheres to the tacky surface in image configuration. The developer material comprises a sublimable dye. The transfer body surface is positioned adjacent a surface of a receiving body and the adhering developer material is heated to a temperature for causing the dye to sublimate and thereby transfer in image configuration to the adjacent surface of the receiver body. The transfer and receiver bodies are separated and a reproduction of the image is retained on the receiver body. A number of copies are produced by repeatedly replacing the receiver body and reheating the adhering material. A reproduction master for use with this method is also disclosed.

Method and article for image reproduction

A carrier for electrostatographic developers comprising carrier particles comprising metals, metal alloys, metal compounds and mixtures thereof treated with a strongly adhering adsorbable organic dye. This carrier is used with toner particles to develop electrostatic latent images.
