A computer implemented method for discriminating between launch and impact events using acoustic sensors.

Explosive event discrimination

A dynamic barrier system including a number of sensors that monitor a barrier area to determine specific types of objects approaching, within, or exiting the barrier area. Depending upon the type of object(s), the dynamic barrier system initiates an appropriate action, both lethal and non-lethal. The barrier system may advantageously deactivate after its intended period of operation eliminating difficult and/or dangerous removal.

Dynamic barrier system

A method for discriminating between explosive events having their origins in High Explosive or Chemical/Biological detonation employing multiresolution analysis provided by a discrete wavelet transform. Original signatures of explosive events are broken down into subband components thereby removing higher frequency noise features and creating two sets of coefficients at varying levels of decomposition. These coefficients are obtained each time the signal is passed through a lowpass and highpass filter bank whose impulse response is derived from Daubechies db5 wavelet. Distinct features are obtained through the process of isolating the details of the high oscillatory components of the signature. The ratio of energy contained within the details at varying levels of decomposition is sufficient to discriminate between explosive events such as High Explosive and Chemical/Biological.

Explosive event discrimination method

An acoustic array platform comprising multiple spaced microphones and associated processing electronics/algorithms projects distinct beams in a chosen look direction across which moving objects such as vehicles pass. These moving objects are accurately detected, classified and counted at extended ranges. The acoustic microphone array employs optimized beamforming to create specially focused listening directions that function as a 'motion detector' and 'trip line counter'. Algorithms detect and confirm the appropriate presence of objects moving through the beams and perform other algorithmic tests to verify that the object is a valid object to be counted. The proposed approach is realized with modest sized acoustic arrays and a reasonable number of microphones by employing an adaptive beamforming algorithm that achieves enhanced directivity in a principal look direction and which significantly reduces the effects of interferers outside the precise steering direction of the &#x201c;trip line&#x201d;.
