Methods and apparatus relating to power management of periodic transmissions from networking applications are described. In one embodiment, a periodic transmission manager logic coupled between one or more network applications and one or more network interfaces may control the flow of periodic transmissions from the one or more network applications to the one or more network interfaces. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

Power management of periodic transmissions from networking applications

A method and system for allowing a client device to establish a direct communications session such as Wi-Fi Direct service using the 5 GHz band. In one embodiment, a client device first establishes a direct communications session, in the 2.4 GHz band with another client device, and then, based on the content used in that service, establishes a 5 GHz service if needed.

Method to enable Wi-Fi direct usage in radar bands

In various embodiments, only a few selected channels are available to be used for scanning for a network controller in a wireless network. In various other embodiments, only a few selected channels are available to be used as an idle channel in a wireless network. In both cases, the channels available for such purposes are fewer in number than the channels available for operational communications. In some embodiments, these channels are in a different industry band than the channels used for operational communications.

Stationary wireless network stations are woken up using Wake-on-WLAN functionality. Wake-on-WLAN is provided by paging stations in a wireless network. Paging may support mobile stations across multiple access points. Paging may also support stationary nodes with reduced overhead. Wake-on-WLAN is also provided to stationary stations in idle mode by signifying a wake-on event in a traffic indication map (TIM). Wake-on events may occur when a station is associated or disassociated with an access point. Upon receiving a wake-on event, a station associates or reassociates with an AP if necessary.

Wake-on-WLAN for stationary wireless stations

Wake on wireless network techniques are described. An apparatus may include a wireless transceiver, a processor coupled to said transceiver, and a connection management module for execution by the processor. The connection management module may establish a connection with a client device, receive a sleep preparation message with at least one sleep parameter value from the client device, and set a timeout value for the connection based on the sleep parameter value. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Wake on wireless network techniques

Passive information devices are networked by formulating a network address for the information devices by combining a network address of an associated network node with at least a portion of a unique code of the passive information device.

Systems and methods for networking passive information devices

A method and apparatus for providing broadcast discovery in a network having one or more 1394 buses is disclosed. Devices connected to a bus generate advertised discovery information upon either a reset of the bus or a receipt of a solicit packet sent to all devices in the network by a discovering device. The devices generate the advertised discovery information upon the receipt of the solicit packet if the solicit packet contains either a global bus identifier or a bus identifier associated with the bus to which the devices are connected. The discovering device receives the advertised discovery information sent by the devices. Based on the advertised discovery information, the discovering device maintains a list of devices and services included within the devices.

Broadcast discovery in a network having one or more 1394 buses

A method is disclosed for use on a bus that supports broadcast discovery. According to the method, identification information is received from a device on the bus and discovery information is obtained from the device using the identification information. The discovery information is then broadcast on the bus.
