A seal valve arrangement is provided for a hydraulic device (). The hydraulic device has an inner bore (). The seal valve arrangement includes an element () disposed in the bore. The element is constructed and arranged to define a fluid passage () so fluid can move from one side thereof to a side opposite the one side. An elastomer seal member () is adjacent to the fluid passage and to a seal portion (r) of the element. A spring member () biases the seal member to engage the portion (r) to maintain sealing of the fluid passage under certain fluid pressure conditions, and under different fluid pressure conditions, permits the seal member disengage from the portion of the element to open the fluid passage. A tipping point is disclosed as a point when a fluid pressure condition alone causes the seal member () to fully engage the portion of the element and fully seal the fluid passage.

Fluid operated device with improved seal valve

A hydraulic operated tool includes a body (B), a pair of jaws () mounted with respect to the body so that at least one of the jaws is movable between an opened jaw position and a closed jaw position so as to engage workpiece (W) between the jaws. A ram assembly () is disposed in the body and is operatively associated with the jaws. Spring structure () causes the ram assembly to move thereby causing the jaws to initially engage the workpiece with a first force. A pump assembly () exerts fluid on the ram assembly to move the ram assembly further, causing the jaws to exert a second force, greater than the first force, on the workpiece.

Hydraulically powered gripping tool

A pressure releasing valve structure&#x2033; is provided for a fluid operated device. The device has an orificeconstructed and arranged to be in fluid communication with a pressure chamber C. The valve structure includes a bodyhaving first and second ends. A valve memberis provided at the first end of the body and is constructed and arranged to seal the orifice. A first springis associated with the first end of the body and is constructed and arranged to cause the valve memberto seal the orificeunder first pressure conditions in the pressure chamber C. A second springis associated with the second end of the body and is constructed and arranged to compress thereby reducing a force exerted by the first spring, permitting the valve memberto move to a non-sealing position to open the orifice under pressure conditions in the pressure chamber C lower than would be required absent the provision of the second spring.

Modulated overpressure valve structure for fluid operated device

A bi-stable valve arrangement includes a body having first and second opposing ends and constructed and arranged to define a passage between the body and another element so that the passage extends from the first end to the second end. A seal member associated with the body. A first spring structure biases the seal member in a first direction and a second spring structure biases the seal member in a direction opposite the first direction. The first and second spring structures are constructed and arranged so that the seal member may seal the passage. The first and second spring structures have spring loads such that under certain fluid pressure conditions on the first and second sides of the body, the seal member moves against the bias thereon to permit fluid flow through the passage in one direction, and under different pressure conditions on the first and second sides of the body, the seal member moves against the bias thereon to permit fluid to flow through the passage in a direction opposite the one direction. A check valve and an over pressure valve structure are also provided.

Valve structure for a fluid operated device

A hydraulic device includes a housing and a bulkhead disposed in the housing. A pump piston is provided in the housing and has first and second end surfaces with the second end surface of the pump piston and surfaces of the housing and of the bulkhead defining a pumping chamber. The pump piston is constructed and arranged to move within the housing to develop pressure on fluid in the pumping chamber. The first end surface of the pump piston and surfaces of the housing define a pump reservoir chamber. A ram piston is provided in the housing and has first and second end surfaces with the first end surface of the ram piston and surfaces of the housing and of the bulkhead defining a drive chamber. Connecting structure is associated with the bulkhead to communicate the pumping chamber with the drive chamber so that fluid pressure developed in the pumping chamber may be exerted on the first end surface of said ram piston. A barrier is provided in the housing between an end of the housing and the ram piston. Surfaces of the housing, the barrier and the second end surface of the ram piston define a ram reservoir chamber, and surfaces of the second end of the housing and of the barrier define an accumulator chamber. Passage and valve structure is associated with the barrier to selectively permit fluid to flow from the ram reservoir chamber to the accumulator chamber and from the accumulator chamber to the ram reservoir chamber. Passage and valve structure is associated with the ram piston to permit fluid flow from the ram reservoir chamber to the drive chamber. Passage and valve structure is associated with the pump piston to selectively permit fluid flow from the pump reservoir chamber to the pumping chamber and from the pumping chamber to the pump reservoir chamber, Communication structure fluidly communicates the accumulator chamber with the pump reservoir chamber. The ram piston is movable selectively at three speeds with corresponding magnitudes of force relative to a single speed of the pump piston.

Compact, resistance regulated, multiple output hydraulic tool and seal

A hydraulic tool having a ram or other working element propelled by pressurized fluid. The tool has a lever which is squeezed to develop fluid force in a pump. The fluid circuitry automatically operates the ram selectively at any one of three operating speeds and hence at three different magnitudes of force relative to the input speed of the lever as it is squeezed. The circuitry includes a principal supply subcircuit in which fluid flows directly from the pump to the ram, thereby establishing a normal speed mode of operation. A high speed subcircuit and a low speed subcircuit each operated by respective pressure responsive valves direct fluid ejected as the ram piston and pump piston advance to the respective rear sides of the ram piston and pump piston. This has the effect of accelerating the ram and operating at reduced force, thereby establishing a high speed mode of operation when resistance against the ram is minimal, and of decelerating the pump piston and operating at greater force, thereby establishing a low speed mode of operation when resistance is relatively high. In a preferred embodiment, the hydraulic tool includes a handle enabling grasping in pistol grip fashion and enabling ready squeezing of the lever.

Three speed circuit for hydraulic tool

A tire splitting apparatus including a frame, a powered drive roll mounted on the frame for rotating a tire, a pressure roll for engaging the tire with the drive roll, and a knife for insertion into the casing while it is rotating for cutting it into halves. A guide is clampable for contact with both side walls of the tire to align and steady the tire so that the knife will cut repeatedly in the same track. A bead support carries substantially all of the weight of the tire during the splitting operation to allow repeated revolutions of the tire as necessary to complete the splitting process.

Tire splitting apparatus

A tire is placed upon an infeed support which initiates movement of a spindle to extend longitudinally through the tire, then expand radially to engage the tire beads and then retract longitudinally to clamp the beads together. One of a pair of power driven rolls having roughened, wear resistant surfaces, then is moved toward the fixed roll of a pair to grip the tire between them and rotate the tire and spindle assembly. The spindle and drive roll assembly, together with the rotating tire, then is moved by a common support carriage toward a rotary flywheel type cutter assembly which operates on the tire in the radial direction inward from the tread area to an area closely adjacent the metal beads, reducing the tire to small pieces. An air fan is integrated with the flywheel of the cutter assembly to minimize heating of the flywheel and cutter mechanism. A metal sensor on the infeed support prevents operation of the apparatus if the tire contains steel belts.

Apparatus for shredding tire casings

Apparatus for cutting tire casings. A cutter engages the crown of a tire casing from one side, while the crown is supported by crown support means on its opposite side. Guide means cooperating with the crown support means holds the tire casing while cutting progresses. A biased knife acts as the cutter which cuts the casing from the inside.
