In some examples, a print controller is to receive a preference relating to a choice between quantity in printing images by a printing apparatus and quality of printed images and vary a threshold value according to the received preference to produce a dynamically set threshold value. The print controller is to further initiate printing of a print job using the first print head array, determine whether an image quality defect value associated with printing at least one of image of the print job exceeds the dynamically set threshold value, in response to determining that the image quality defect value does not exceed the dynamically set threshold value, continue printing the at least one image with the first print head array, and in response to determining that the image quality defect value exceeds the dynamically set threshold value, cause movement of the first print head array from a first position to the servicing station.

Servicing a print head array

A print controller initiates printing of a print job by at least one print head array of a printing system. In response to determining that the at least one print head array should be serviced, the print controller determines whether the servicing of the at least one print head array will interrupt the print job. In response to determining that the servicing will not interrupt the print job, the print controller causes movement of the at least one print head array from a given position to a servicing station of the printing system. In response to determining that the servicing will interrupt the print job, the print controller performs other tasks.

A printing apparatus including at least one print head array coupled to the printing apparatus, a servicing station configured to service the at least one print head array, and a print controller software coupled to computer readable medium and the print controller software configured to perform the steps of moving the at least one print head array to the servicing station when at least one occurs from the group consisting of a nozzle head crash, a clogged nozzle, a failure of a print head, a misalignment, and the image quality defect value is above a threshold value and configuring at least one additional print head array to continue a print job started by the at least one print head array when the at least one print head array is at a position following the at least one print head array and the at least one additional print head array is functional.

Imager units

A printing and finishing system includes a printing device for producing a print according to printing parameters and a finishing device for finishing the print according to finishing parameters. In one implementation, the system includes a controller configured for two-way communication between the printing device and the finishing device. The implementation may allow the controller to adjust at least one of the printing parameters in response to at least one of the finishing parameters and allows the controller to adjust at least one of the finishing parameters in response to at least one of the printing parameters. The implementation may be configured so that the controller operates the printing device using the at least one printing parameter adjusted in response to at least one finishing parameter and operates the finishing device using the at least one finishing parameter adjusted in response to at least one printing parameter.

Print finishing method and apparatus

A fluid-ejection assembly of one embodiment is disclosed comprising first and second arrays of fluid-ejection mechanisms, first and second service stations, and first and second drive mechanisms. The first array ejects fluid onto media; the first service station is to service the first array. The second array ejects fluid onto the media; the second service station is to service the second array. The first drive mechanism moves the first array between a first position to eject fluid onto the media and a second position at the first service station, while the second array ejects fluid onto the media in place of the first array. The second drive mechanism moves the second array between a third position to eject fluid onto the media and a fourth position at the second service station while the first array ejects fluid onto the media in place of the second array.

Fluid-ejection assembly

An electroluminescent media assembly that can be fed into an inkjet printer and is capable of recording high quality images. The media assembly includes an electroluminescent substrate for generating light, and an ink receiving layer. The media assembly can also include feedability controlling layers. Intermediate adhesion layers or adhesion treatments can also be employed. Electrical contacts are provided to make the correct electrical connection to the assembly to excite the electroluminescence characteristics.
