An improved refrigerant composition, or a kit for an improved refrigerant composition, for use in air conditioners comprising a refrigerant, wherein the refrigerant comprises a hydrofluorocarbon having a GWP of less than about 10 and an ODP of about zero, which is present at a concentration of at least about 50% by weight of the refrigerant composition; a lubricant wherein the lubricant is a polar, oxygenated lubricant; and an acid scavenger comprising a siloxane, an activated aromatic compound, or any mixtures thereof.

Refrigerant composition

This invention describes a new refrigerant/lubricant combination for use in stationary and mobile refrigeration and air conditioning applications. In these applications, the refrigerant and lubricant must be soluble in each other (e.g., miscible) to ensure adequate lubricant circulation from the compressor, through the condenser, expansion device, and evaporator, and back to the compressor. Insufficient lubricant circulation will result in compressor failure. Low temperature solubility is particularly important to ensure lubricant flow through the cold evaporator. In addition, the lubricant and refrigerant combination should be stable in the presence of steel, and aluminum and copper containing metals. This invention describes the combination of refrigerant difluoroethane (e.g. R-152) and polar, oxygenated lubricants, particular polyalkylene glycols (PAGs) and polyolesters (POEs) which may be used as a replacement for R-134

Described is a process for preparing a three-dimensional article of a lyotropic polymer comprising the steps of (a) forming a shaped article of a liquid crystalline solution of a lyotropic polymer; (b) washing the shaped article with a washing fluid under conditions sufficient to reduce the solvent content of the article to less than about 2,000 parts per million, wherein the dimensions of the washed article are no less than 0.05 inches by 0.05 inches by 0.05 inches. Polybenzazole polymer dopes are spun into fibers at high speed by passing through a spinneret with proper selection of hole geometry, followed by spin-drawing to a spin-draw ratio of at least 20, washing, taking up and drying. The take up speed is at least about 150 meters per minute, and the fibers are spun in at least 10 km lengths without a break.

Polybenzazole polymer dopes are spun through a spinneret having more than 2 per cm.sup.2, of orifices in relatively close proximity. The dope filaments formed, then pass through an air gap which has a temperature of 50.degree. to 100.degree. C. and a gas flow sufficient to uniformly reduce the temperature of the dope filaments. The filaments cool in the air gap and are then coagulated.
