An ecofriendly corrosion inhibitor composition and a method for inhibiting corrosion on a metal surface with the ecofriendly corrosion inhibitor composition are provided. The ecofriendly corrosion inhibitor composition includes 10-30 weight % of fatty acids derived from waste vegetable oils and 70-90 weight % of heavy aromatic naphtha. The fatty acids derived from waste vegetable oils include oleic acid, linoleic acid, and palmitic acid. In the method, the ecofriendly corrosion inhibitor composition is added to a hydrocarbon fluid exposed to the metal surface and the corrosion inhibitor composition inhibits corrosion on the metal surfaces.

Green corrosion inhibitor from waste vegetable oil for oil and gas applications

According to embodiments disclosed herein, a method of reducing corrosion during petroleum transportation, petroleum storage, or both, may comprise inputting a corrosion inhibitor formulation into a petroleum pipeline, a petroleum storage tank, or both, wherein the corrosion inhibitor formulation consists essentially of solvent and a pyridinium hydroxyl alkyl ether compound.

Methods for corrosion reduction in petroleum transportation and storage

Compositions inhibit corrosion in various commercial settings, such as in a refinery and/or in an oil and gas application. The compositions include at least one fatty acid and at least two amphipathic molecules selected from the group consisting of dodecenyl succinic acid, dimer fatty acid and benzalkonium chloride.

Corrosion inhibitor compositions and methods for inhibiting corrosion on a metal surface exposed to a hydrocarbon fluid are provided. The corrosion inhibition compositions can include a corrosion inhibitor, such as 3-dimethylamino benzoic acid, 4-dimethylamino benzoic acid, or 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid. The corrosion inhibitor composition can further comprise dimethyl sulfoxide, and heavy aromatic naphtha. The corrosion inhibitor composition can be phosphate-free and can inhibit naphthenic acid corrosion. In the methods, a corrosion inhibitor composition is added to the hydrocarbon fluid exposed to the metal surface to prevent or inhibit corrosion on the metal surface, including naphthenic acid corrosion.

Naphthenic acid corrosion inhibitors for a refinery

Corrosion inhibitor compositions and methods for inhibiting corrosion on a metal surface exposed to a hydrocarbon fluid are provided. The corrosion inhibitor composition can comprise 2-aminoterephthalic acid, dimethyl sulfoxide and heavy aromatic naphtha (HAN). In another embodiment, the composition can comprise 4-methylamino benzoic acid or 4-methylsulfonyl benzoic acid, N-methyl pyrrolidone, and HAN. In the method, a corrosion inhibitor composition comprising 2-aminoterephthalic acid, 4-methylamino benzoic acid, or 4-methylsulfonyl benzoic acid can be added to a hydrocarbon fluid exposed to the metal surface. The corrosion can be caused by naphthenic acid.

An electrochemical system for measuring the repassivation kinetics of a metallic material under sour oil field conditions comprises a housing made of the metallic material surrounding an internal space; insulating covers positioned on the housing, an electrolyte enclosed within the internal space of the housing and the insulating covers, a scratch tool including a second housing made of an insulting material that one end positioned in the electrolyte, a sample holder for holding a sample composed of the metallic material, and a pin tip positioned to scratch off a passivation film from the sample surface, and an electrical power source coupled to the housing and the sample within the scratch tool so as to generate an electric current between the housing and the sample, wherein the sample holder is movable with respect to the pin tip to create a scratch on the sample within the electrolyte.
