A method for testing a hydrocarbon sample. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a sheath disposed about the hydrocarbon sample. The apparatus further comprises at least one set of acoustic sensors, wherein the at least one set of acoustic sensors is secured to the sheath, and further wherein at least one set of acoustic sensors produces an acoustic signal having a velocity through the hydrocarbon sample. In addition, the velocity is measured to provide information about the hydrocarbon sample. In other embodiments, the at least one set of acoustic sensors is disposed radially about the hydrocarbon sample.

Testing of bottomhole samplers using acoustics

A method and apparatus for testing a hydrocarbon sample. A method and apparatus for testing cement comprising introducing cement into a curing vessel that is at least partially inside a test vessel, curing the cement at a selected temperature and pressure, maintaining the cement at least at the selected temperature and pressure after the cement has cured and until testing of the cement, and testing the cement for a performance property. The testing apparatus comprises a test vessel comprising a test chamber, a curing vessel at least partially within the test chamber comprising a first end cap, a second end cap, and a flexible sleeve, the curing vessel being sealed from the fluid in the test chamber.

Method and apparatus for testing cement slurries

An acoustic measurement system detects solids within a fluid includes a sample cell for containing the fluid, a first transducer for outputting a first acoustic detection signal at a first frequency, a first acoustic receiver responsive to the first acoustic detection signal, and a second acoustic transducer for outputting an acoustic second mixing signal at a second frequency to mix the solids in the fluid within the sample cell. Controller may vary the &ldquo;on&rdquo; time of the second transducer with respect to the measurement of the first acoustic signal. The fluid within the cell may be tested under a wide range of temperatures and pressures. The acoustic measurement system may also be used to measure the bulk modulus of the liquid. The method of the invention allows for the detection of crystallization for a portion of the fluid in the sample cell under widely varying conditions.

Acoustic mixing and measurement system and method

A real-time method is disclosed for maintaining subterranean formation stability through monitoring the interaction between the formation and fluids introduced into (or produced from ) a wellbore penetrating the formation. The method employs real-time wellbore (in)stability logging methodology. The method is exemplified by a Pore Pressure Transmission (PPT) test. In such test, test fluids are exposed to Pierre II shales (20% w/w NaCl solution and sodium silicate fluid with 20% w/w NaCl, for example) in a PPT apparatus. Membrane efficiency of the two fluids when exposed to the outcrop shale is calculated, and based on the simultaneous acquisition of acoustic data, estimation of a dynamic rock property is made. Calibrating representative shale (or other formation) core response to drilling fluids (or well service fluids, enhanced recovery fluids, or production fluids) under realistic in-situ conditions aids in accurately modeling for time-dependent formation (in)stability in the field for the entire life of the wellbore, from drilling, completion and through production.
