An improvement in the production of 1,1-disubstituted ethylenes is attained by contacting a 1,1-disubstituted ethylene with alumina and separating the alumina to obtain a 1,1-disubstituted ethylene with a good combination of cost, purity, shelf life and cure rate.

Purification of 1,1-disubstituted ethylene

A process of making D-panthenyl triacetate which includes reacting D-panthenol with acetic anhydride in the presence of the catalyst polymer bound dimethylaminopyridine to form an exothermic mixture. The so-produced acetic acid, and the catalyst are removed from the exothermic mixture which is then neutralized with sodium hydroxide. Sodium acetate in the form of a solid is removed by filtration. The D-panthenyl triacetate is useful in cosmetic compositions.

Process of making D-panthenyl triacetate

Commercially viable process for producing 2,6-dihydroxy-3,4-dimethlpridine. The process includes reacting 2-cyanoacetamide with sodium methoxide followed by condensation with ethyl 2-methylacetoacetate in methanol to give the sodium salt of 2,6-dihydroxy-4,5-dimethyl-3-pyridinecarbonitrile. The sodium salt of 2,6-dihydroxy-4,5-dimethyl-3-pyridinecarbonitrile is hydrolyzed with hydrobromic acid and decarboxylated to the hydrobromide salt of 2,6-dihydroxy-3,4-dimethylpyridine. The desired 2,6-dihydroxy-3,4-dimethylpyridine is produced from the hydrobromide salt by neutralizing the same with sodium hydroxide.
