One embodiment includes an air pump assembly () with an impeller (), a housing (), and a diverter (). The impeller () has an axis of rotation (R). The housing () surrounds the impeller () and has an inlet passage () with a longitudinal axis (L) arranged generally orthogonal to the axis of rotation (R) of the impeller (). The diverter () helps reduce turbulent fluid-flow in the inlet passage ().

A method of controlling a device having restricted movement. A controller is provided for controlling the operation of the device using a control algorithm. A normal operation control method is programmed onto the controller and is selectively activated by the controller to generate a normal control signal. A forcing control method is also programmed into the controller and selectively activates a forcing control signal. The normal operation control signal provides regular operation of the device, while the forcing control signal causes the device to operate in a manner that will correct the operation of the device when a restricted motion of the device is detected.

An actuator assembly having a housing, at least one rotating gear member including a cam, and an actuator device operably connected to the rotating gear member, operably contained in the housing, for rotating the gear member. Also included is a bearing member operably associated with the cam such that when the actuator device is actuated for rotation of the gear member, the bearing member moves on the cam for providing relative motion between the bearing member and the rotating gear member. The actuator device is selected from a torque generating device or a device having linear movement.

Many devices, such as a turbocharger, use an apparatus to control their functions. For example, pneumatic and electric actuators are used to provide positional control of a mechanism on the turbocharger. The actuator must connect to the vehicles electrical system to provide suitable communication and control of the actuator. They must also have internal control and interconnection of devices such as sensors, electronic control unit, external electrical connector, and internal electrical connections. The electrical connections, placement of sensor, and placement of the controller are critical to the performance, reliability, and cost of the actuator. The control and interconnection system will provide the aforementioned requirements including a 'quick connect' capability for electrical connections and ease of assembly.

A sensor is operably associated with the valve and the valve body, and measures a characteristic in proximity to the valve. An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) arrangement having an intake manifold with a valve base assembly integrated with the engine's intake manifold. The valve base assembly has a valve seat positioned in the path of fluid flow through the valve base. A valve member is also contained in the valve base and is operably disposed in relation to the valve seat. An actuator is connectable with the valve base and with the valve member to open and close the valve seat in response to actuation of the actuator. The actuator can disconnect from the valve base and valve member.
