The present invention provides a composition comprising: a polyester base polymer; an oxidizable polyether-based additive; and a transition metal catalyst, wherein the polyester base polymer is substantially free of antimony. Containers made include a wall made of the composition. The polyester base polymer may preferably include polyethylene terephthalate and include less than about 100 ppm of antimony, less than about 50 ppm, less than about 10 ppm, or between about 0 and about 2 ppm. Containers made from the composition are substantially clear and exhibit excellent oxygen scavenging properties with little to no induction period.

Oxygen scavenging compositions requiring no induction period

A composition comprising: a polyester base polymer; a blend of two distinct polyether-based oxygen scavenging additives, OS1 and OS2, wherein each of OS1 and OS2 is selected from the group consisting of a polyether diol, an ester end-capped derivative of a polyether diol, a polyether-polyester block copolymer, and an ether end-capped derivative of a polyetherdiol, wherein OS1 has a molecular weight of from 10,000 to 100,000 and OS2 has a molecular weight of from 200 to 5,000; and a transition metal catalyst.

Dual oxygen-scavenging compositions requiring no induction period

The present invention provides an oxygen scavenging composition for incorporation into a wall of a package. The composition comprises a polyester base polymer, at least one oligomeric, oxidizable poly(alkylene ether) glycol-&#x3b1;,&#x3c9;-diester having the formula and at least one transition metal in a positive oxidation state. The compositions of the present invention do not exhibit an induction period prior to the onset of oxygen scavenging upon formation into a container.

Oxygen scavenging compositions for plastic containers

The present invention provides a composition comprising: a polyester base polymer; at least one non-polymeric oxidizable organic compound; at least one transition metal in a positive oxidation state, said metal being present in the composition in an amount of from about 10 to about 400 ppm, wherein the polyester base polymer comprises less than about 40 ppm phosphorous. Oxygen scavenging additives for plastic containers

The present invention provides a multilayer plastic bottle comprising layers of PET and a polyamide such as, for example, MXD6, that is free from occurrence of delamination upon dropping or upon exposure to impact. The present inventors have found that when forming a barrier layer containing an adhesion promoting agent according to the present invention, an impact energy applied to the barrier layer is well reduced and the resultant multilayer bottle is improved in interlaminar bonding strength and prevented from suffering from delamination upon dropping, etc.

A method of making a polymer composition comprising dispersed nanoparticles of an oxygen scavenging catalyst includes polymerizing one or more monomers or pre-polymers in the presence of a platinum group metal catalyst or precursor to obtain a polymer composition having dispersed nanoparticles of the platinum group metal. The oxygen scavenging catalyst is added during the polymerization as a solution of the platinum group metal or a compound thereof and a polyhydric alcohol (e.g., glycols). The food or beverage containers made from such polymer compositions exhibit high clarity and high oxygen scavenging properties.
