One of the purposes of the present invention is to provide a silicone which has polymerizable groups at the both terminals and an amphiphilic side chain and which provides a copolymer having high surface wettability. The present invention provides a silicone represented by the formula (1): in the formula (1) Ris a group represented by the following formula (2): wherein n is an integer of 2 to 8 and Ris a methyl group or a hydrogen atom, 'a' is an integer of 1 to 500, b is an integer of 1 to 100, provided that a+b is 50 to 600, the siloxane units in the aforesaid parentheses may be bonded in a block or at random, Ris, independently of each other, a substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms, Ris, independently of each other, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, Ais a group represented by the formula (3) or (3'): wherein R is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, Bis a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, an aralkyl group having 7 to 12 carbon atoms, or an acyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, m is an integer of 0 to 8, p is an integer of 1 to 10, q is an integer of 1 to 50, and the polyether units in the parentheses are bonded in the above-described order.

Silicone and a method for preparing the same

One of the purposes of the present invention is to provide a silicone which has polymerizable groups at the both terminals and a hydrophilic side chain having three or four hydroxyl groups, is colorless and transparent and is well compatible with another monomer, particularly with hydrophilic monomer, and a method for preparing the same. The present inventor has made research to solve the afore-mentioned problems and found that a silicone represented by the formula (1), which has an unbranched or branched alkyl group represented by &#x2014;CH(OH) and a hydrophilic side chain containing an ether bond, has no coloration and is well compatible with other hydrophilic monomers. Therefore, the silicone polymerizes with a monomer having high hydrophilicity to give a colorless, transparent and highly hydrophilic copolymer. Further, the present inventors have found that the silicone represented by the formula (1) is obtained by addition reacting an organohydrogenpolysiloxane represented by the formula (4) with a compound represented by the formula (5).

One of the purposes of the present invention is to provide a polysiloxane which has polymerizable groups at the both terminals, is well compatible with another hydrophilic monomer, and provides a (co)polymer having improved durability of mechanical strengths. The present invention provides a compound represented by the formula (1) having a group represented by the formula (3) as a hydrophilic side chain, which is characterized in that the hydrophilic side chain has an alkyl group having three hydroxyl groups and no ether bond. Further, the present invention provides a method for preparing the silicone.

Silicone and use thereof

One of the purposes of the present invention is to provide a compound which is a polymerizable monomer having a specific number of silicon atoms and a specific number of fluorine atoms and to provide a method for preparing the compound. The present invention provides a compound represented by the following formula (1): wherein m is an integer of from 2 to 10, n is an integer of from 1 to 3, Ris, independently of each other, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and Ris, independently of each other, an alkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a fluoroalkylene group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, Ris an alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and R, Rand Rare, independently of each other, a hydrogen atom or a methyl group.

Silicone compound and a use thereof

One of the purposes of the present invention is to provide a compound which is a polymerizable monomer having a specific number of silicon atoms and a specific number of fluorine atoms, has a higher purity, is suitable as an ophthalmic monomer, is well compatible with another (meth)acryl monomer, and provides a polymer having excellent hydrophilicity, anti-staining property and durability of mechanical strength and to provide a method for preparing the compound. The present invention provides a compound represented by the following formula (1). Further, the present invention provides a method for preparing the compound, a polymer having repeating units derived from the aforesaid compound and an ophthalmic device composed of the polymer.

The purpose is to provide a silicone compound which is well compatible with polymerizable silicone monomers and other polymerizable monomers to provide a polymer having high oxygen permeability, excellent hydrophilicity and anti-staining property, excellent dimension stability, and enough durability of mechanical strength not to deteriorate in a phosphate buffer solution. The other purpose is to provide a silicone compound having a high blocked terminal ratio and a high ratio of one specific structure and a method for preparing the silicone compound. The invention provides a compound represented by the following formula (1). Further, the invention provides a method for preparing the compound, use of the compound as an ophthalmic monomer, a polymer having repeating units derived from the aforesaid compound and an ophthalmic device composed of the polymer.

There is provided an electrostatic image developing toner less likely to cause image degradation even when used for a long period, by controlling CCA particles present on surfaces of toner particles and thereby keeping an amount of tribocharge generated between the toner and a magnetic carrier or the like constant. A charge control agent composition for external addition for controlling charge amount of toner particles includes: at least two types of carrier particles different in average particle size of primary particles; and a charge control agent (CCA), and an electrostatic image developing toner is constituted of a mixture of toner particles and the aforesaid charge control agent composition for external addition.

One of the purposes of the present invention is to provide a silicone compound which has a specific number of silicon atoms, is well compatible with (meth)acryl monomers, is suitable as an ophthalmic monomer and provides a polymer having excellent durability of mechanical strength in a buffered phosphate solution. Another purpose of the present invention is to provide a silicone compound which functions well as a crosslinking agent for a polymerizable monomer. Further, another purpose is to provide a method for preparing the silicone compound, in particular the silicone compound having one specific structure at a high ratio. In the first aspect, the present invention provides a compound represented by the following formula (1-1): and a method for preparing the silicone compound. Organopolysiloxanes containing a sulfide-containing organic group, a long-chain alkyl group, and a hydrolyzable group are novel. The organopolysiloxanes are effective for improving the shelf stability of epoxy resin compositions.

Organopolysiloxane and making method

A hydrolyzable group-containing organohydrogenpolysiloxane is prepared by (A) reacting (a) an organosiloxane with (b) an organosilane or organosiloxane containing a hydrolyzable group, at least one of components (a) and (b) containing hydrosilyl, in the presence of a superstrong acid catalyst, (B) adding an inorganic basic neutralizing agent and/or an adsorbent to the resulting reaction solution, and (C) removing the neutralized and/or adsorbed form of the superstrong acid catalyst. The process proceeds in an essentially non-aqueous system, and the organohydrogenpolysiloxane free of residual acidic catalyst is obtainable at low cost.

A coating composition primarily comprising a disilane compound of the formula (A):XRSi&#x2014;Y&#x2014;SiRX&#x2003;&#x2003;(A)wherein Ris a monovalent hydrocarbon group, Y is a divalent fluorinated organo group, X is a hydrolyzable group, and m is 1, 2 or 3, or a (partial) hydrolyzate thereof is applied and cured to form a protective coat having excellent chemical resistance and antireflection.

Spherical silica-titania-based fine particles surface-treated with silane are provided. The fine particles have a titanium atom content of 0.001 to 5% by weight, a frictional electrification with iron powder of &#x2212;100 to &#x2212;300 &#x3bc;C/g, a bulk density of 0.2 to 0.4 g/ml, and a particle diameter of 0.01 to 5 &#x3bc;m. The particles are useful as a material for an external additive for an electrostatically charged image developing toner. The toner is unlikely to cause degeneration or scratching of organic photoreceptors, displays excellent dispersibility and favorable flowability and consequently does not cause adhesion to the photoreceptor.

Spherical silica-titania-based fine particles surface-treated with silane, production process therefor, and external additive for electrostatically charged image developing toner using same

An external additive for electrostatically charged image developing toner is provided. The additive includes spherical hydrophobic fine silica particles having primary particles with a particle diameter of from 0.01 to 5 &#x3bc;m and having been treated with a compound selected from the group consisting of a quaternary ammonium salt compound, a fluoroalkyl-group- or fluoroalkenyl-group- containing betaine compound and a silicone oil. The fine silica particles fulfill conditions (i) and (ii), as described in the disclosure. The external additive does not react or has no interaction with an organic photoreceptor and therefore change in quality does not occur or the photoreceptor is not scraped. Furthermore, it has a good flowability and therefore adhesion of a toner to the photoreceptor does not occur.

External additive for electrostatically charged image developing toner

A coating composition comprising the reaction product of a benzotriazole compound having a polymerizable vinyl group and a hydroxyl group with a silane compound and/or a (partial) hydrolyzate thereof is applied to plastic substrates, typically polycarbonate resin substrates to form transparent coatings having improved mar, weather and chemical resistance.
