Compositions for the treatment of some orphan diseases and oral mucosal ulcers, many with similarities in terms of their anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative activities, but also multiple differences in their observed abilities that can be combined to challenge the current, underlying pathophysiology. The orphan diseases of interest are Dupuytren's Contracture, Peyronie's Disease, Scleroderma, Raynaud's (or Renaud's) Phenomenon, chemotherapy/radiation induced oral mucosal ulceration, and aphthous ulcers; and more frequent skin issues of skin damage from cuts, abrasions, and burns; aging skin changes, and toe nail fungus. These can be treated with the disclosed compositions with the proper combination and alteration of ingredients inclusive of alpha-pinene, an aloe vera preparation, and a shea butter preparation. A process for preparation of such ingredients in a water-in-oil emulsion is described herein.

Topical compositions, process of large-scale manufacture, and method of use

A hair care formulation is disclosed that enhances visual and/or tactile qualities of the hair. Embodiments of the formulation include a pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), a glycyrrhizinic acid, a pantothenic acid, a pyrrolidone, an antimicrobial agent, zinc, and an antioxidant. The formulation may be included in separate hair care products, such as a shampoo, conditioner and scalp serum. In a particular embodiment, the formulation is included in a daily shampoo, a deep cleansing shampoo, a daily conditioner, a deep conditioner, and a scalp serum. In some of these examples, each of the hair care products contain at least 10 vitamins, minerals, and herbs, such as swertia extract, ginseng extract, saw palmetto extract, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B), zinc pyrrolidone carboxylic acid, superoxide dismutase, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, green tea extract, and tea tree oil.

Method for maximizing scalp health and inducing enhanced visual and tactile hair quality

Compositions for cleansing are disclosed that are not irritating to human skin. A composition is disclosed that includes at least 2% of a mixture of a salt of an alkyl sulfoacetate and a salt of an ethoxylated alkyl sulfosuccinate, at least 3% of a salt of an ethoxylated alkyl sulfate, at least 1% of an amphoteric surfactant, at least 0.05% of an alkyl glucoside, and at least 0.005% of a phospholipid. A composition for cleansing is disclosed that includes about 2% to 70% of a mixture of a salt of an alkyl sulfoacetate and a salt of an ethoxylated alkyl sulfosuccinate, about 3% to 40% of a salt of an ethoxylated alkyl sulfate, about 1% to 40% of an amphoteric surfactant, about 0.05% to 10% of an alkyl glucoside, and about 0.005% to 10% of a phospholipid. A cleansing composition is further disclosed that includes about 41% of a mixture of alkyl sulfoacetate and ethoxylated alkyl sulfosuccinate, about 34% of an ethoxylated alkyl sulfate, about 22% of an amphoteric surfactant, about 2% of a alkyl glucoside, and about 0.5% of a phospholipid. A composition for cleansing is also described which includes about 2% to 50% of a mixture of a salt of a sodium lauryl sulfoacetate and Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, about 3% to 35% of Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, about 1% to 30% of Cocamidopropyl Betaine, about 0.05% to 8% of Coco-Glucoside and Coconut Oil, and about 0.005% to 5% of a phospholipid. A method of cleaning is also described, which includes contacting a surface to be cleansed with the composition of the invention. The composition can be used in a variety of personal care or household cleansers, such as contact lens care products, shampoos, soaps, body washes, mouthwashes, toothpastes, oral rinses, facial and wound cleansers, eye makeup removers, laundry and dishwashing detergents, and others.

Cleanser that is gentle to human skin

A method of reducing sebum on the surface of skin is provided. The method includes applying topically to the skin a composition comprising an alcohol, pyridoxine hydrochloride or a salt or derivative thereof, and a zinc salt, wherein the composition is applied to the surface of the skin in an amount sufficient to reduce sebum. A topical composition for reducing sebum on the surface of the skin, comprising an alcohol, pyridoxine hydrochloride or a salt or derivative thereof, and a zinc salt in an amount sufficient to reduce the amount of sebum on the surface of the skin is also described.

Topical treatment for oily skin

An ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) composition in a nonaqueous or substantially anhydrous silicone vehicle has superior stability. Particulate ascorbic acid is substantially insoluble in the disclosed polyorganosiloxane vehicles, and the vehicle substantially excludes environmental oxygen. The ascorbic acid particles have surprisingly been found to have a high degree of bioavailability and effectiveness, for example in topical applications to reduce wrinkles and increase collagen growth and elasticity.

Stable topical ascorbic acid compositions

A preservative system for topically applied products includes one or more of benzyl alcohol, disodium EDTA, and a para-hydrobenzoic acid, in an effective antimicrobial amount, combined with one or more enhancers selected from the group of sorbic acid, salts of sorbic acid, benzoic acid, salts of benzoic acid, and a phospholipid. This preservative system has been found to effectively prevent the growth of bacteria, yeast and mold, without irritation of the skin as occurs with many prior preservatives. The preservative system is therefore ideal for incorporation into topical preparations such as cosmetics, skin care products, and pharmaceutical compositions (such as dermatologic, otic and ophthalmic preparations).

Preservative system for topically applied products

A synergistic combination of one or more antioxidants and sunscreen agents provides superior protection of the skin against the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation. In particular embodiments, the antioxidants include lipid soluble vitamins and water soluble antioxidants in an emulsification system, such as a polyorganosiloxane emulsifier. The lipid soluble vitamin component includes Vitamins A and E, while the water soluble antioxidant component includes magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, DL panthenol, beta glucan, grape seed extract and superoxide dismutase. The sunscreen agents may include a UVA sunscreen agent selected from the group of oxybenzone, dioxybenzone, sulisobenzone, avobenzone or zinc oxide, and at least one UVB sunscreen agent, selected from the group of ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, DEA methoxycinnamate, padimate O, ethylhexyl salicylate, homosalate, TEA salicylate, octocrylene or titanium dioxide. The antioxidants and sunscreen agents in combination provide enhanced protection from ultraviolet radiation induced skin damage.
