A disk spindle assembly for a hard disk drive includes a hub and a hub flange extending radially from the hub and configured to apply a clamping force to secure disk media to the hub. The hub flange includes multiple protrusions extending from a surface of a top side and configured to contact a disk medium at multiple contact positions in response to application of a clamping load. The protrusions may be annular protrusions circumscribing the hub, where the height of an inner protrusion may be less than the height of an outer protrusion to inhibit coning of the bottom disk medium, and the protrusions may be positioned so that an equivalent contact radius corresponding to contact radii of the inner and outer annular protrusions is at a position halfway between the inner and outer diameters of the disk spacers to inhibit coning of the middle disk media.

A disk clamp for a hard disk drive, configured to clamp disk media to a spindle, includes multiple protrusions extending from a surface of a bottom side and configured to contact a disk medium at multiple contact positions in response to application of a clamping load. A novel hermetically sealed disk drive comprises a disk drive enclosure that includes a disk drive base with a bottom face, four side faces, and a top cover. The disk drive also comprises a peripheral foil seal overlapping each of the four side faces and having a first opening therethrough that overlies the upper surface of the top cover. The peripheral foil seal conforms to the disk drive enclosure and is adhered to the top face and to each of the four side faces by a first continuous adhesive layer. The hermetically sealed disk drive also includes a central metal cap completely covering the first opening and being adhered to the upper surface of the top cover through the first opening by a second continuous adhesive layer. The central metal cap is thicker than the continuous metal foil, and the disk drive enclosure is helium-filled.

A disk drive includes a disk drive enclosure and a disk rotatably mounted to and within the disk drive enclosure. A desiccant canister is in fluid communication with the disk drive enclosure. The desiccant canister includes a canister housing and a desiccant material within the canister housing. The desiccant canister includes a water absorption restriction that limits a steady-state hourly water absorption rate of the desiccant to not exceed 2% of the desiccant's total capacity for water absorption.

A test ramp is disclosed comprising a plurality of planar surfaces, wherein each planar surface comprises at least one impediment. Each impediment is offset along a planar axis from the other impediments, and each impediment is operable to contact part of a respective actuator arm of a disk drive in order to excite a microactuator coupled to the actuator arm.
