A system and method for remote manufacturing of medical devices are provided. The system can be installed at a facility (e.g., at a hospital or other medical facility), and includes a remote manufacturing unit (RMU) that allows for customized, rapid fabrication of medical devices at the medical facility using suitable manufacturing techniques such as three-dimensional (3D) printing, additive manufacturing, subtractive manufacturing, etc. The RMU can communicate with a computer system which presents a healthcare professional with a digital catalog of medical products, and allows the healthcare professional to select and customize a desired device to be manufactured at the facility.

Systems and methods for remote manufacturing of medical devices

Implantable compositions providing release of bioactive agents according to a predetermined release profile and methods for their use. Such compositions include at least one ceramic substrate; a bioactive substance loaded on a surface of the ceramic substrate forming a loaded surface zone operable to release said bioactive substance according to a release profile under physiological conditions; and a biodegradable polymer having an in vivo degradation period, forming a continuous or discontinuous coating on an area of the ceramic substrate.

An implantable subcutaneous electrical socket and corresponding percutaneous plug are disclosed for controlling and/or energizing an implanted medical device, such as a bone distraction motor, within a patient. The subcutaneous electrical socket is accessed percutaneously by the plug, to connect data and power electrodes deployed from the plug into the socket to conduct control signals and electrical power from an external source to an implanted medical device within the patient. The socket and plug include insulating materials to prevent electrical shock to the patient.

A method of forming an orthopedic implant, the method comprising the steps of providing a first implant component and a second implant component, the first implant component having a stem and a second implant component including a head defining a female taper sized to receive the stem; coupling the stem to the female taper of the head; forming a modular injunction between the stem and head; applying a seal to the modular injunction to limit bodily fluid from contacting the modular injunction; and forming the orthopedic implant.

A knee joint prosthesis can include a tibial component that can have a tibial tray. The tibial tray can include a platform-like tray that defines a superior surface and an inferior surface. The platform-like tray can have a tray perimeter and a raised wall formed on the inferior surface. The raised wall can be offset inboard relative to the tray perimeter. Porous material can be disposed on the inferior surface of the platform-like tray at a location generally between the raised wall and the tray perimeter.

A drug delivery and diagnostic system can include an orthopedic implant having an outer attachment surface. A conduit can be coupled to the outer attachment surface. The conduit can have an inlet and a plurality of perforations formed along a length thereof. The conduit can be adapted to pass fluid between the inlet and the perforations. A subcutaneous port can be fluidly coupled to the inlet and be adapted to communicate fluid through the inlet, along the conduit and out of the perforations around and along the outer attachment surface of the orthopedic implant.

The porous insert is adapted to be received at the attachment surface of the implant in a retained position. The porous insert is adapted to facilitate tissue ingrowth. The femoral component comprises an inner condylar portion having a first and second lateral sidewalls, an anterior wall and a posterior wall defining a box. The box defines the attachment surface. In other embodiments, the implant comprises a hip stem and an acetabular shell.
