Protective garments and methods for low wet pick-up from hose water, weather, etc. and from perspiration generated by the wearer, to minimize water impact on the insulative properties, minimize weight gain, and effectuate quick drying. For firefighting in particular, the disclosure provides that wet, hot air is driven out of the garment, away from the wearer (rather than in), and water entry is blocked.

Moisture-insensitive thermally protective materials and garments made therefrom

A stretchable chemical protective material is described comprising a selectively permeable chemical protective film and an elastic textile. Further described are methods for making a stretchable chemical protective material and methods of using the same. Materials made from these methods may have improved flex durability. Garments made from these materials may have improved heat loss.

Stretchable chemical protective material

A protective covering is described comprising at least one microporous film attached to a functional layer, the protective covering capable of inhibiting the passage of toxic substances therethrough. Preferably the functional layer is an adsorptive layer contained between two oleophobic, microporous films. Additional shell and backer layers may be added to the construction forming a protective covering having good durability, flexibility and high moisture vapor transmission.
