The disclosed technology performs dynamic routing of a request to create a voicemail associated with a call session for a wireless communication device. Upon receiving the request, a query is sent to a DNS server of a wireless network to identify location information of the wireless communication device. The DNS server determines a voicemail server geographically proximate to the wireless communication device based on the information in the query and one or more location mapping tables and/or pre-defined mapping logics stored in the DNS server. Upon receiving information of the voicemail server as output of the query, the request to create the voicemail is routed to the voicemail server geographically proximate to the wireless communication device.

A computer-implemented method for managing radio spectrum in a cellular network including periodically analyzing a local spectrum utilization data to determine spectrum use levels at the local base station. The method may include periodically receiving, at the local base station, neighbor spectrum utilization data from at least one neighbor base station in the cellular network. The neighbor spectrum utilization data is associated with spectrum use levels at the at least one neighbor base station. The method may include receiving a spectrum assignment request from a mobile computing device and, in response, determining a spectrum assignment for the mobile computing device based on at least one of the neighbor spectrum utilization data and local spectrum utilization data. The method may include transmitting the spectrum assignment to the mobile computing device.

Particularly in order to mitigate the poor angular spread of higher frequency signaling, a second set of signals may be transmitted to a UE using a different polarization than a first set of signals. Depending on one or UE-specific parameters, the second set of signals may comprise a different data stream than a first set of signals to facilitate spatial multiplexing, or the second set of signals may comprise the same data stream as the first set of signals to facilitate spatial diversity.

Devices, systems, and methods relate to performing Internet Protocol (IP) Media Subsystem (IMS) bearer activation and radio bearer activation at different times. In some embodiments, a radio bearer is activated after the IMS bearer is activated. The radio bearer that is activated after the IMS bearer is activated may utilize a different Radio Access Technology (RAT) than an initial radio bearer. In certain instances, a device initiates activation of the radio bearer upon receiving confirmation that the IMS bearer is activated, or initiates activation of the radio bearer a predetermined period of time after initiating activation of the IMS bearer. In various embodiments, staggered IMS bearer activation and radio bearer activation can prevent collisions at components of an Evolved Packet Core (EPC).

In one example aspect, a method for wireless communication includes transmitting, by a first network element in a home network, a message to a second network element indicating an establishment of a roaming voice session using a non-cellular network access technology. The message includes an Internet Protocol (IP) address allocated to a terminal device. The method also includes determining, by the first network element in the home network, a geographical location of the roaming voice session based on the IP address allocated to the terminal device.

Techniques for setting up a communication session associated with Evolved Packet System Fallback (EPSFB) are described herein. A fifth generation telecommunications network can implement a server to determine that a user equipment (UE) is incapable of establishing a Voice over New Radio (VoNR) call due to a chipset or other technology used by the UE. The server can send a message (e.g., a SIP380 Alternative Service message) to the UE to cause the UE to begin fallback to another network without waiting for an instruction from a base station in a standardized call flow. The server can establish the communication session for the UE using fewer call flow steps than a number of steps used by a standardized call flow.

A computer-implemented method of reducing disruption in a cellular network. The method includes receiving a node table including IMS nodes. The IMS nodes include nodes designated as voice nodes and nodes designated as message nodes. The method includes transmitting the node table to user devices in the cellular network, and receiving a first register request from a user device including an IP address of a message node. In response to receiving the first register request, the method includes transmitting the first register request to the IP address of the message node included in the first register request, and receiving a second register request from the user device, the second register request including an IP address of a voice node. The method includes transmitting the second register request to the IP address of the at least one of the one or more voice nodes included in the second register request.

Solutions for dynamically toggling physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) interleaving include: a base station receiving radio measurement reports from a user equipment (UE); based on at least the radio measurement reports, determining that radio reception by the UE meets a threshold; based on at least meeting the threshold, ceasing to interleave data on the PDCCH. The base station continues to monitor radio measurement reports from the UE, and based on at least the radio measurement reports indicating that radio reception by the UE meets a second threshold, resuming interleaving data transmitted on the PDCCH. In some examples, UEs are managed in broadcast groups (e.g., UEs within a common in a cell sector), and interleaving or ceasing interleaving is based on a determination of whether all UEs in the broadcast group are able to forego interleaving.

Systems, devices, and techniques described herein relate to use of an optimized security mode command (SMC) procedure for securing communications. When connecting to a different cellular network (e.g., from a 5generation (5G) Radio Access Network (RAN)) to a different cellular network (e.g., a 4generation (4G) RAN), a User Equipment (UE) performs the SMC procedure without processing subsequent commands until a period of time has elapsed. Instead of allowing the UE to process subsequent commands received close in time to receiving the SMC, the subsequent commands may be delayed/suspended so that the UE has time to perform the SMC procedure and establish secure communications with the 4G LTE network. According to some examples, the delay is set to a period of time (e.g., 1 ms, 10 ms, or some other value) such that the subsequent command does not interfere with performing the SMC procedure.

Multiple regions around a cell tower provide coverage to a UE. The multiple regions describe the location of the UE in relation to the cell tower. The multiple regions include a near region and a far region. The system sends a request to the UE to provide an indication of a distance between the UE and the cell tower. Based on the distance between the UE and the cell tower, the system categorizes the location of the UE in relation to the cell tower into one of the multiple regions. The system receives an indication of a problem in a communication between the UE and the wireless telecommunication network. Based on the one of the multiple regions into which the location of the UE is categorized, the system determines a likely source of the problem such as the UE, a radio network, or a core network.

Various embodiments comprise a wireless communication network to inhibit multimedia session drop. In some examples, the wireless communication network comprises Call Session Control Function (CSCF) circuitry. The CSCF circuitry receives a multimedia registration request from a user device that comprises a registration timer indication. The CSCF circuitry registers the user device for multimedia services and sets a registration timer based on the registration timer indication. The CSCF circuitry receives a multimedia session request from the user device and establishes a multimedia session based on the session request. The CSCF circuitry determines when the registration timer expires and when the multimedia session is active. When the registration timer expires and the multimedia session is active, the CSCF circuitry maintains the registration of the user device. When the registration timer expires and the multimedia session is inactive, the CSCF circuitry deregisters the user device.

Inhibiting active session drop during registration expiration in wireless communication networks

Methods, devices, and system related to wireless communications are disclosed. In one example aspect, a device for wireless communication includes a processor that is configured to determine an estimation of an interference signal for a connection between the device and a receiving device in a wireless communication system, construct an interference elimination signal based on the estimation of the interference signal, and perform a data transmission to the receiving device with the interference elimination signal to enable the receiving device to eliminate the interference signal in the data transmission. The estimation of the interference signal is determined by building a probabilistic model of the interference signal using at least an interference template associate with a characteristic of the device or one or more measurements of a channel condition collected within a predefined observation window.

Systems and methods are provided for communicating service type in a paging message for cellular communication (e.g., 4G, 5G). This enables the radio network and user equipment (UE) to be aware of the paging service type and prioritize the most critical signaling events. Initially, a service indication flag is received from one or more of: a radio resource control message from a UE of the one or more UEs; a S1-AP message from a Mobile Management Entity; or a Next Generation Application Protocol message from an Access and Mobility Management Function. Based on the service indication flag, a service type of a terminating service that is causing the UE to be paged is determined. Based on the determined service type, resources can be allocated for the UE.
