Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive a message that indicates a first initial uplink bandwidth part for use by the UE in communications with a network entity, the message also indicating a plurality of random access occasions, at least one of the plurality of random access occasions being in frequency resources that are outside of the first initial uplink bandwidth part. The UE may select a random access occasion of the plurality of random access occasions for transmission of a random access preamble from the UE to the network entity. The UE may transmit, as part of a random access procedure, the random access preamble within the random access occasion.

Bandwidth part configuration for reduced capability devices

Certain aspects of the present disclosure provide techniques for a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) ordered random access channel (RACH) procedure. The RACH procedure may be associated with a cell-defining synchronization signal block (SSB) or non-cell-defining SSB. A method for wireless communications by a user equipment (UE) includes transmitting an indication of one or more capabilities of the UE, receiving a PDCCH that orders the UE to perform a RACH procedure on an uplink carrier based on the one or more capabilities of the UE, determining a minimum gap between a last symbol of the PDCCH and a first symbol of a RACH message, wherein the minimum gap includes a half-duplex (HD) switching delay, and performing the RACH procedure on the uplink carrier when a gap between the last symbol of the PDCCH and the first symbol of the RACH message is equal to or larger than the minimum gap.

PDCCH ordered random access channel procedure for reduced capability user equipment

There is a need for a beam tracking technique that reduces the time needed to perform a beamforming procedure and that reduces beam overhead. The apparatus may determine a mapping between a first beam associated with a first type of channel and a second beam associated with a second type of channel. In an aspect, the first type of channel may be different than the second type of channel. The apparatus may receive the first beam associated with the first type of channel and the second beam associated with the second type of channel. In an aspect, the first beam and the second beam may be received from a second device.

Mapping between a control beam and a data channel beam

In an embodiment, a first node receives, from a second node, a plurality of beams. The first node determines a time of arrival of each beam of the plurality of beams. The first node identifies, from the plurality of beams, one or more first beams of interest for a positioning procedure based on the times of arrival of the plurality of beams. The first node determines a first reference timing based on the time of arrival for a given beam among the identified one or more first beams of interest. The first node sends, to the second node, a positioning beacon in accordance with the first reference timing.

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, a user equipment (UE) may perform a random access (RACH) procedure based on a selected synchronization signal block (SSB). During this RACH procedure, a base station may transmit physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) messages for UE RACH message handling. To receive PDCCH signaling for RACH Messages 2, 3, or 4 (Msg 2/3/4), the UE may identify a set of time resources used by the base station for transmitting SSBs that are not quasi-co-located (QCL) with the selected SSB. The UE may identify a Msg 2/3/4 search space that does not overlap with this identified set of resources, and may monitor this identified search space. The search space may correspond to a modified remaining minimum system information (RMSI) search space indicated by the base station, or a valid RMSI search space not indicated by the base station.

Search space configurations for random access messaging

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A synchronization signal block (SSB) may be dynamically scheduled within an operating bandwidth of a user equipment (UE), where the operating bandwidth of the UE is outside of a frequency resource in which a cell defining SSB (CD-SSB) is scheduled. For example, a UE may operate in a reduced capability mode or an enhanced reduced capability mode where the UE may operate in a narrower bandwidth than the serving cell bandwidth. Control signaling may dynamically configure an SSB for the UE within the operating bandwidth of the UE. The UE may monitor for the non-cell defining SSB (NCD-SSB) and skip monitoring for the CD-SSB based on the dynamically configured NCD-SSB. For example, a reduced capability UE or an enhanced reduced capability UE may monitor for the NCD-SSB without performing RF retuning between receiving the control signaling and monitoring for the NCD-SSB.

Techniques for configuring bandwidth parts and synchronization signal blocks

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive a synchronization signal block (SSB) burst set that includes a plurality of SSBs, a majority of the SSBs in the SSB burst set having an SSB symbol and a corresponding physical broadcast channel (PBCH) symbol that is located a fixed number of symbols from the SSB symbol. The UE may obtain a location of the PBCH symbol based at least in part on the fixed number of symbols. Numerous other aspects are described.

Physical broadcast channel and synchronization signal block signaling

Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques relate to improved methods, systems, devices, and apparatuses that support random-access occasion (RO) selection for reduced-capability (RedCap) user equipment (UEs). A RedCap UE operating in a half-duplex mode may use the techniques described herein to efficiently select an RO in which to transmit a random-access preamble based on a duration between a latest received downlink transmission and the RO satisfying a threshold duration. The UE may receive system information mapping a set of synchronization signal blocks (SSBs) to a set of ROs. The UE may then select an RO from the set of ROs in which to transmit the random-access preamble such that the UE has sufficient time to transition from a receive mode to a transmit mode to transmit the random-access preamble.

Random-access occasion selection for reduced-capability user equipment

Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a wireless communication device may transmit a set of reference signals to a first wireless node; receive information identifying a transmit power capability of the first wireless node based at least in part on transmitting the set of reference signals; and configure one or more transmission parameters for a first link with the first wireless node or a second link with a second wireless node based at least in part on the transmit power capability of the first wireless node. In some aspects, a node may configure whether a set of soft time resources is to be conditionally released or unconditionally released. The set of soft time resources may be configurable in a schedulable state or a non-schedulable state. Conditional release of soft resources in an integrated access and backhaul network

This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus for wireless communications that support fallback from a 2-step to a 4-step random access procedures. A user equipment (UE) may establish a connection with a base station using a random access procedure. The random access procedure may be a 2-step random access procedure and reduce a number of handover exchange messages. The 2-step random access procedure may include the UE transmitting, to the base station, a first random access message including a preamble and a payload. In some implementations, the base station may receive the preamble but fail to receive or decode the payload. The random access procedure may utilize the received preamble information instead of performing retransmission of the first random access message. The base station may transmit a second random access message to the UE indicating, explicitly or implicitly, a fallback to a 4-step random access procedure for connection establishment.

Techniques are described herein for periodically transmitting a first set of signals (e.g., reference signals) during an on-period of a discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle rather than during an off-period of the DRX cycle. Such techniques may enable a user equipment (UE) operating in a DRX mode to conserve additional power during the DRX cycle. A periodicity for transmitting the first set of signals during the on-period may be determined. The periodicity may indicate that every one-in-N DRX cycles, the first set of signals are to be transmitted during the on-period. During other DRX cycles, the first set of signals may be transmitted during the off-period. When the first set of signals are transmitted during the on-period, the UE may refrain from activating certain components during the off-period, thereby conserving power.
