A smart thermal patch for adaptive thermotherapy is provided. In an embodiment, the patch can be a stretchable, non-polymeric, conductive thin film flexible and non-invasive body integrated mobile thermal heater with wireless control capabilities that can be used to provide adaptive thermotherapy. The patch can be geometrically and spatially tunable on various pain locations. Adaptability allows the amount of heating to be tuned based on the temperature of the treated portion.

A memory cell includes a substrate and a body including plural layers. The body has an inner body and an outer body, and the body is formed on top of the substrate. A nanotube trench is formed vertically in the body and extends to the substrate. A nanotube structure is formed in the nanotube trench. The nanotube trench divides the body into the inner body and the outer body and the nanotube structure is mechanically separated from the inner body and the outer body by a tunnel oxide layer, a charge trapping layer, and a blocking oxide layer.

A flexible three-dimensional electronic device includes a polymer layer having a first side and a second side that is opposite of the first side. A first flexible substrate carrying a first electronic component is arranged on the first side of the polymer layer. A second flexible substrate carries a second electronic component. The second flexible substrate is a flexible silicon substrate arranged on the second side of the polymer layer. An electrically conductive via passes through the polymer layer to electrically connect the first and second electronic components.

A sensor system includes a plant growth sensor, an environmental sensor device, and processing electronics. The plant growth sensor includes a strain sensor arranged on a first stretchable and flexible substrate. The environmental sensor device includes first and second environmental sensors arranged on a second stretchable and flexible substrate. The processing electronics are electrically coupled to the plant growth sensor and the environmental sensor device. The processing electronics include a wireless communication transceiver.

A multi-dimensional integrated circuit (MD-IC) device for monitoring one or more parameters of a fluid includes plural faces, each face having plural interlocks extending from a periphery of the face for interlocking with corresponding interlocks of another face of the plural faces; the plural faces are mechanically attached to each other and electrically connected through the interlocks to form a closed chamber; an energy harvester placed on an outside surface of a first face of the plural faces; a fluidic monitoring sensor placed on an outside surface of a second face of the plural faces; a processor placed within the closed chamber; and a battery placed within the closed chamber and configured to receive the electrical energy from the energy harvester and to provide the electrical energy to the processor and the water monitoring sensor.

Multi-dimensional integrated circuit for real-time monitoring of a fluidic environment

A method of fabricating a thermal management device. The method includes depositing a seed layer, using a seed layer depositing technique, on a side of a support base; growing a heat sink base layer on a side of the seed layer; depositing a hard mask on a side of the support base directly opposite that containing the seed and heat sink base layers; patterning the hard mask with a photoresist mask; etching the patterned hard mask with an etching technique, wherein the etching creates trenches in the underlying support base, exposing the seed layer; removing the hard mask with a hard mask removal technique; depositing a layer of photoresist on the heat sink base layer; growing heat sinks using a heat sink growth technique on the exposed seed layer; removing the photoresist layer with a photoresist layer removal technique; and removing the support base with a support base removal technique.

Microfabrication techniques and devices for thermal management of electronic devices

An angular acceleration sensor includes a curved track having first and second metallic layers, and a spherical conductive ball provided within the track. The first metallic layer has a constant, uniform, width along a length of the track while the second metallic layer has a varying-width along the length of the track. An angular acceleration experienced by the spherical conductive ball is associated with a change in a capacitance between the spherical conductive ball and the curved track, which is uniquely associated with an external linear acceleration experienced by the sensor.

A sensor includes a substrate and a nanotube structure formed on top of the substrate. A body is formed on top of the substrate and surrounds the nanotube structure. A source contact is electrically coupled to a top portion of the nanotube structure. A drain contact is arranged on top of the substrate and is electrically coupled with a bottom portion of the nanotube structure. A gate contact is arranged on top of the nanotube structure. The gate contact is electrically is isolated from the top portion of the nanotube structure and electrically coupled with a middle portion of the nanotube structure. The top portion of the nanotube structure is exposed to an environment surrounding the sensor.

An apparatus for personal health maintenance has a sensor attached at least indirectly to a carrier member in turn attachable to a user or subject and configured for measurement of at least one physiological parameter of the user. A reservoir contains a preselected composition. An electronic processor is operatively connected to the sensor for receiving a signal therefrom encoding a measurement of the physiological parameter, the processor being configured for determining a divergence of the physiological parameter from a predetermined magnitude, the processor being operatively connected to a dispensing mechanism for ejecting, from the reservoir, an amount of the composition to be administered to the user to reduce divergence of the physiological parameter from the predetermined magnitude. The dispensing mechanism includes an expandable polymer composite layer with gas-filled micro-bubbles or microspheres expandable by operation of a heating element.

One manner of producing more desirable clothing with electronic capabilities is to manufacture electronics, such as the charging wires or devices themselves, directly onto the textile materials. Textile materials generally do not support the manufacturing of electronic devices, in part because the surface of the textile is too rough for electronic devices or the processes used to manufacture electronic devices. An intermediate layer may be placed on the textile material to reduce the roughness of the surface of the textile material and provide other beneficial characteristics for the placement of electronic devices directly on the textile material.
