A fully integrated small size implantable sensing device is described, which can include a sensor and an electronic circuit to interface with the sensor and communicate with an external device. Various fabrication methods for the sensing device are described, including provision of wells, created using same fabrication technology as the electronic circuit, to contain electrodes of the sensor and corresponding functionalization chemicals. Such implantable sensing device can be used for a variety of electrochemical measuring applications within a living body as well as actuation by injecting a current into the living body.

System and methods for wireless drug delivery on command

An implantable device having a communication system, a sensor, and a monolithic substrate is described. The monolithic substrate has an integrated sensor circuit configured to process input from the sensor into a form conveyable by the communication system.

Miniaturized implantable electrochemical sensor devices

A sensing device allows detection of biological quantities in ways that are minimally invasive. Micrometer or nanometer sized needles allow sensing of bodily fluids in a minimally invasive method. The device comprises electronics and power harvesting. Antennas or coils allow communication and power harvesting from an external device, which can be attached to smartphones to allow operation of a camera and camera light for biosensing.

Minimally invasive wireless sensing devices and methods

A sensor incorporates one or more working electrodes, a counter electrode and a reference electrode. The sensor is inserted in a needle and connected to control electronics to detect the concentration of target molecules. The electrodes are arrays of nanostructures increasing the detection surface area. The nanostructures are functionalized with nucleic acids which bind to select target molecules.

Fabrication of implantable fully integrated electrochemical sensors

Three dimensional high surface electrodes are described. The electrodes are fabricated by methods including the steps: designing the pillars; selecting a material for the formation of the pillars; patterning the material; transferring the pattern to form the pillars; insulating the pillars and providing a metal layer for increased conductivity. Alternative methods for fabrication of the electrodes and fabrication of the electrodes using CMOS are also described.

Three-dimensional high surface area electrodes

An implantable biocompatible biosensor is described herein. The biosensor includes a chip layer including a plurality of holes fabricated vertically there through, a power source, one or more sensors on the chip layer and coupled to the power source and a hydrogel matrix including one or more angiogenesis stimulating factors in contact with the chip layer. The stimulating factors stimulate growth of organic material through the plurality of holes when the biosensor is implanted in a subject.
