A method and apparatus for improved battery performance of user equipment in a wireless network having multiple radio resource control (RRC) states, the method comprising the steps of: monitoring, at the user equipment, application data exchange; determining when no application on the user equipment is expected to exchange data; and initiating, from the user equipment, a transition to a less battery demanding radio resource control state or mode.

Method and apparatus for user equipment directed radio resource control in a UMTS network

In some implementations, a method includes receiving a connection request from a user application. A service request is sent to a radio resource control (RRC) module. An indication of failure of or a rejection to the service request due to access class barring is received from the RRC module. Method and apparatus for setup of a circuit switched call during circuit switched fallback

A method performed by a mobile device of selecting a cellular network entails activating a cellular radio transceiver, scanning a most recently used frequency list of radiofrequency channels most recently used by the cellular radio transceiver of the mobile device, scanning a likely frequency list of likely radiofrequency channels available at a plurality of locations where activation of cellular radio transceivers commonly occurs, and selecting the cellular network by identifying one of the radiofrequency channels as a usable channel.
